Sad! How Fast-Rising Nollywood Actor, Stanley Okoro Was Poisoned At Movie Location– Cousin | AgegePulse Magazine

By Ayodele Ifasakin

Stanley Okoro

The family of Stanley Okoro, the fast-rising Nollywood actor that died a few days ago, has alleged that the movie star was poisoned by colleagues.

DAILY POST reported that Okoro, popularly known for his comedy roles in movies, died on Wednesday from a suspected case of food poisoning.

According to the family, Okoro was poisoned after successfully completing a movie shoot in a hotel in the Maryland area of Enugu State.

Although they cannot tell if the 23-year-old actor was having problems with anybody that would want him dead, the family said that Okoro’s only problem was his obsession with food.

A very close Cousin to the deceased, Okoro Nneka Loveth, who spoke to DAILY POST on Thursday, said the deceased loved and carried everyone along.

Her words, “Stanley happens to be my Cousin. A very close Cousin. Stanley was poisoned. And the person that poisoned him was among the people on set with him as of last week.

“Usually, whenever he came to Enugu, he’d either call me for food or call one of our Cousins to get him food. Stanley liked food alot. He ate a lot.

“So whenever he asked me for food, (usually I’m very busy) I’d send a Keke (tricycle) driver to go and deliver it. I have one Hausa Keke driver that usually did that for me or I’d go myself or my other Cousin will go herself or send one of her girls.

“But this last time he came, we only talked on the phone. They were in Enugu for a movie shoot. Their location was in Maryland, Enugu.

“So after the movie shoot he went back. He apologised that this time, he could not meet with us but that he’d be coming back the next week. Stanley left Enugu four day ago and said he’d be coming back next week, that they have another movie to shoot.

“He lived in Owerri (Imo State) but this poisoning happened in Enugu. Immediately he got back to Owerri the thing started happening to him as if he had a stroke and he started vomiting.

“They rushed him to a hospital and on getting to the hospital Stanley gave up. So the person used a fast poison. Maybe as they rounded up shooting and decided to eat the person just took the advantage.

“Throughout yesterday, we did not sleep. In fact, Stanley did not deserve to die. That guy is nice and carries everybody along. In fact, everyone in my village is crying. He was so down to earth. The only problem he had was that he liked food a lot. He ate too much.

“He was not married but may have been in a serious relationship. He wasn’t even up to 30 years. I can’t tell if he was having problems with anybody [that would want him dead]. He didn’t tell me of anyone.

“Stanley lived his life like an Hausa man, he wouldn’t even take note when someone was angry with him.

“Currently Stanley is in the mortuary and for now we don’t know what to do. He was around 23-year-old.”

By Ayodele Ifasakin

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), has announced the dismissal of an officer of the agency after being found guilty of misconduct by a Disciplinary Committee.

A statement signed by the General Manager, Mr. Olajide Oduyoye, said the officer, who was seen in a viral post on Facebook soliciting for bribe from a vehicle owner, faced disciplinary action in accordance with the extant rules of the Lagos State Civil Service and, subsequently, his appointment terminated.

Oduyoye explained that the Personnel Management Board (Disciplinary Committee) set up to probe the allegation of bribery, corruption and serious act unbecoming of a Public Officer leveled against him, held a meeting on Friday, 11th June, 2021 and found him culpable of gross misconduct as stipulated in the Public Service Rules.

He noted that every organisation has its bad eggs but deemed it unfair for members of the public to categorise all LASTMA staff as corrupt, urging members of the public to share their experiences and provide evidence whenever they encounter misdemeanour by the agency's staff.

The LASTMA Chief Operating Officer implored road users in Lagos to always comply with the State Traffic Law in order not to run foul of the law, pointing out that violation will attract consequences.

Emphasising the need for compliance, Oduyoye said, “This is necessary in order to promote the ‘Greater Lagos’ vision for the benefit of all and for the realisation of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S. Development Agenda, particularly in respect of the Traffic Management and Transportation pillar.

He also revealed that 11 officers of the Agency have so far faced various disciplinary actions from Y2020 till date, stressing that some of the officers had their appointments terminated, some demoted and others reprimanded for various infractions.

Judgment day finally came for two Nigerian fraudsters, Tobilola Ibrahim Bakare and Alimi Seun Sikiru as they lost cash and properties in upscale Lekki axis of Lagos to the Federal Government following their arrest and successful prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Seun Sikiru Alimi

The forfeited assets include the sums of N196, 741, 216.82 and N7, 054, 852.01 in bank accounts; two vehicles, a Mercedes Benz E500 and a Toyota Hilux 2020 and five bedroom duplex situated at Ibrahim Eleto Street, Osopa London, Lekki, Lagos, four bedroom semi-detached duplex situated at Ologolo , Jakande, Lekki, Lagos and  another four bedroom semi-detached duplex in Southern View Estate, Mayor Court, Chevron Alternative Road, Lekki, Lagos.

The two vehicles are valued at N30million while the three duplexes are valued at N230million.

Ibrahim king Bakare

The fraudsters gave up the assets as they could not give satisfactory explanation of the funds and properties linked to them. They confessed to involvement in cybercrime. Bakare, 27, an indigene of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State claimed his forte is Business Email Compromise, and that he had hacked into different companies outside the shores of Nigeria.

The scammers had been successful in their ignoble trade, earning a cumulative sum of $1million USD from victims including three foreign airlines through Business Email Compromise fraud. They laundered the proceeds of crime in acquiring properties including real estate and luxury vehicles.

Life was good, but their comeuppance began in September 2020, when Operatives of the Commission, in the course of investigating a case of suspicious transactions and money laundering involving one Kehinde Adelakun, a convicted internet fraudster, stumbled on evidence linking Alvine International Resources Ventures, owned by the second defendant, Sikiru.

The transaction that sets off the alarm bell was an inflow of N5million in two tranches from Alvine International Resources Ventures.

Further probing by the investigators, revealed several inflows suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities in both the Sterling Bank and Polaris accounts of the second defendant. The balance in both accounts: N196, 741,216.82 in Sterling Bank and N7, 054,852.01 in Polaris Bank, were swiftly placed on a Post No Debit, to forestall dissipation of the funds pending the conclusion of investigation and determination of the case.

The second defendant, in his statement to the Commission , admitted that majority of the funds found in his account were from the first defendant, Bakare, who confessed to being into Business Email Compromise, BEC, between 2009 and 2020 and also hacking into the accounts of KLM, Turkish Airlines and British Airways.

The fraudster were subsequently arraigned before Justice O. A Taiwo of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja on five-count amended charge bordering on conspiracy and retaining stolen property, an offence contrary to Sections 411 and 328 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

One of the counts reads: “Tobilola Ibrahim Bakare and Alimi Seun Sikiru, sometime in 2020 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, conspired to commit felony to wit: retaining cumulative sum of about $1,000.000,00( One Million United States of America Dollars ) property of KLM, Turkish Airways and British Airways.”

Another count reads: “Tobiloba Ibrahim Bakare and Alimi Seun Sikiru, sometime in 2020 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court , with a dishonest intent, retained four -bedroom detached duplex situated at Ologolo Jakande, Lekki, Lagos.”

They pleaded ‘guilty’ to the charges preferred against them.

Delivering judgment, Justice Taiwo noted that the action of the defendants was “responsible for giving Nigeria a bad image globally, whereby the average Nigerian is looked upon as being untrustworthy and fraudulent”. She convicted and sentenced Bakare, to three years imprisonment on counts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, with the option of fine of N3m (Three Million Naira).

The Judge also convicted and sentenced Sikiru, to three years imprisonment on counts 1 and 5 with an option of fine of N1 million (One Million Naira).

Justice Taiwo also held that the five bedroom duplex situated at Ibrahim Eleto Street, Osopa London, Lekki, Lagos,  four bedroom semi-detached duplex situated at Ologolo , Jakande, Lekki, Lagos and  another four bedroom semi-detached duplex in Southern View Estate, Mayor Court, Chevron Alternative Road, Lekki, Lagos recovered from the first defendant be forfeited to the Federal Government.

The Judge further held that the sums of N196, 741, 216.82 recovered from the second defendant’s company, Alvine International Resources Ventures account domiciled in Sterling Bank and N7, 054, 852. 01 recovered from the second defendant’s account domiciled in Polaris Bank be forfeited to the Federal Government

Two vehicles, a Mercedes Benz E500 and a Toyota Hilux 2020 recovered from the first defendant were also ordered forfeited to the Federal Government.

Igboho will return back to Nigeria soon, Akintoye vows

By Ayodele Ifasakin

The leader of the umbrella body of Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua, Professor Banji Akintoye, has disclosed that the body, other groups are working hard to secure the release of embattled Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho, who is on trial in Benin Republic.

Sunday Igboho

The Nation reports Igboho has been in detention since July 19, 2021 when he was arrested by Interpol at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou.

He was arrested with his wife, Ropo, but the Cour De’appal De Cotonou ordered the release of the Germany-based wife of the activist, saying there were no allegations against her.

Akintoye in a statement made available to The Nation by his Communications Manager, Maxwell Adeleye, described some media reports (Not The Nation) that he has left Nigeria to escape the plots of the government to arrest him as untrue.

Akintoye explained he is Benin Republic to coordinate and supervise how to legally rescue the embattled agitator, from government remand as soon as possible.

He stated that Igboho committed no offense against the Nigeria laws to warrant being arrested, intimidated or harassed and he’ll return back to Nigeria as soon as Ighoho is released by the government of Benin Republic to continue the struggle for the actualisation of Yoruba Nation.

“Myself, the President-General and Professor Wale Adeniran (Chairman) of Ilana Omo Oodua, are currently in the Republic of Benin as reported, but not on the run.

“We are here to supervise and coordinate, by all legal and and other means, the struggle for the release of our son and patriot, Sunday Adeyemo Igboho, detained by the Government from custody.

“By demanding peaceful self-determination for the Yoruba Nation, i am not breaking any law, since self-determination is recognized by the International and Nigerian laws to be an inalienable right of every Nationality, large or small, in the world.

“I have earned a solid reputation as a highly respectable advocate of a peaceful self-determination struggle. I have even written a book on the subject which is already being used as a manual by Yoruba self-determination advocates and organizations.

“Irrespective of what the Nigerian Government may be planning against me, I want to say without any fear or intimidation that I will be returning to Nigeria immediately Ighoho is released from the custody. I can’t be intimidated because I’ve not committed any offense, just like Sunday Igboho.

“Let me tell all Yoruba People across the world that there’s no cause for alarm. I didn’t flee to anywhere. I am in Benin Republic running your errands. The struggle is no retreat, no surrender.”

Akintoye also debunked the media reports that Igboho has been abandoned, and that the embattled agitator is personally funding the court cases against the governments of Nigeria and Benin Republic respectively to secure his (Igboho) and his aides’ release.

Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullah El-Ilory - An Erudite Intelligentsia At Glance | AgegePulse Magazine

By Nurudeen Ibrahim

I have always found it interesting to write about Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullah El-Ilory just as it pleases me to write about his father Sheikh Adam Abdullah El-Ilory. When people ask me tell me about Sheikh Habeeb El-Ilory or who is Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory, it pleases me to quickly respond provided the one inquiring is ready to listen to the truth. Below I have written something concise about  this erudite and highly talented scholar of Islam.

Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullah El-Ilory is a prominent personality and Islamic scholar in South-West, Nigeria.

Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullah El-Ilory is a profound and highly informed scholar. He is talented in the field of scholarship and an erudite intelligentsia. He is the son of that giant of knowledge celebrated throughout West Africa, Sheikh Adam Abdullah El-Ilory. Just like his father, Sheikh Habeebullah is a very talented and highly informed scholar about both local as well as global Islamic issues. He is a celebrated member of the intelligentsia as mentioned earlier and his Ramadan Tafseer attracts thousands of listeners gathered at the Great Markaz of which no other Tafseer in South West Nigeria if not the whole of Nigeria attracts such a great number of listeners. Today his Tafseer has a very large number of viewers online because of the knowledge and information he shares.

Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory is a scholar of contemporary Islamic Jurisprudence. He is vast in Tafseer of the Holy Qur'an, Arabic interpretation and history. He is very unique and a rare breed among the scholars of Nigeria today in terms of quality of knowledge and research. He is highly charitable, selfless and apolitical.

Sheikh Habeebullah is well known for his criticism on the Salafi ideologies as well as scrutiny on many issues. Due to his positions which may differ with other scholars on certain issues, some people have considered him as a controversial scholar while some other people refer to him as a Shi‘a Scholar or a Shi‘a sponsored scholar. At the same time, Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory is also considered as a pro-Sufi scholar which is evident in many of his sayings. However, the same Sheikh has criticized the views and positions of the Shi‘a as well as corrupt Sufis in many of his lectures. Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory has been on the scholarship throne of his late father, Sheikh Adam Abdullah El-Ilory, since about 22 years now.

At Al-Azhar University Cairo

In 1986, Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory embarked on a journey to the prestigious Al-Azhar University for a course for Imams and scholars. He was conferred with the title Fadeelat-ush-Sheikh.

Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullah El-Ilory

Succession to Sheikh Adam After the death of Sheikh Adam Abdullah El-Ilory on the 3rd of May, 1992, Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory was unanimously appointed by the Muslim Leaders as the official successor (Khaleefa) of Sheikh Adam El-Ilory to take over the position and assume the roles and office of his father in the Muslim Communities across the world.5 The Emir of Ilorin was among the eminent personalities who pledged allegiance with Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory as the successor of Sheikh Adam Abdullah El-Ilory in 1997. Why Northern Youth Asked FG to ban Big Brother Nigeria |  AgegePulse Magazine

The Arewa Youth Advisory Forum (AYCF) has called on the Federal Government to ban Nigeria’s reality show, BBNaija.

Speaking to newsmen on Friday, AYCF National President, Yerima Shettima, described the show as a calamity. He said government ought not to allow it to be aired because it promotes immorality and s*xual content.

“It’s a calamity for me; I never believed in BBNaija and I don’t think it’s fair because the show is an act of immorality. Such a spectacle should not be encouraged. I have often said that this show encourages immorality and that the Nigerian government should ban it, it should not be allowed to be broadcast in our country.

You see, a lot of people are watching to see acts of immorality, these s*xual things flaunting their n*dity, and they made it look like a ‘blue film’, so that is to be discouraged. I urge true lovers of the country to join hands and draw the government’s attention to the implication of this program which should be discouraged,” he said.

By Ayodele Ifasakin

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Uyo Zonal Command, has secured the conviction of two bank officials, Daniel Akpan Eno and Mbuk Idongesit before Justice Edem Ita Kufre of the Cross River State High Court, Calabar for conspiracy and theft of funds in the account of a deceased customer of a commercial bank.

The duo were convicted on Wednesday August 4, 2021 after pleading guilty  to separate one count charge bordering  on criminal conspiracy and fraudulent transfers. A third defendant, and alleged accomplice, Victor John Okon pleaded “not guilty”. His trial was adjourned till August 10, 2021 for consideration of bail application.

Justice Kufre convicted and sentenced Akpan to three months imprisonment  with an option of fine of Fifty Thousand Naira (N50, 000.00), while Idongesit was sentenced to three months imprisonment with an option of Thirty Thousand Naira (N30, 000.00) fine.

The convicts’ journey to prison started on May 23, 2021 when Idongesit (alongside one Utibe George- currently at large) approached Akpan with the burial programme of one Godfried Godwin Osso, a deceased customer of the Bank, whom George(at large) claimed was his step - father, with a plot to steal from the deceased’s account.

On May 24, 2021, George concluded the deal with the convicts and also contacted a Teller (Victor Okon – the 3rd defendant) from another branch of the bank to ease access to the funds in the account of the deceased. A 50% sharing formula was agreed upon by the conspirators and the plot was executed.

The commission waded in following a petition from the bank, alleging suspicious dissipation of monies in the deceased account into the accounts of family members and acquaintances, from where they were diverted to personal use.

Investigation revealed that on June 19, 2019 Victor Okon connived with George Ifiok Utibe (at large) and received the sum of One Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N1, 500, 000.00). Daniel Akpan also benefited the sum of One Million and Forty Thousand Naira (N1, 040, 000.00) while Godwin Mbuk benefited the sum of One Hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira (N130, 000.00) only

The judge ordered the convicts remanded at the Nigerian Correctional facility until they pay their fines, while Victor was remanded at the Commission’s detention facility pending the hearing of his bail application.

Breaking: Lagos Assembly Adopts Report To Stop Houses For Tinubu, Fashola, Ambode, others | AgegePulse Magazine

By Ayodele Ifasakin

•Reduce Pension Of Ex-Governors by 50%

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday approved the report of its committee on establishment which recommended the reduction of pensions to former governors and other affected officials by 50 percent.

The committee also expunged the provision of houses in Abuja and Lagos for former governors as stipulated in an earlier law operated by the state.

The report further showed a reduction in the number of vehicles to be made available to former governors and their deputies.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa, suggested that former governors should get two vehicles (a car and a van) instead of three as recommended by the committee.

He also suggested that the amended bill should provide that the cars be changed every four years instead of the three years recommended by the report.

While some of the lawmakers, at plenary, had suggested for an upward review of the pension for the affected public office holders by 75 percent, others urged that the pension remain as stipulated in the old law.

However, Obasa argued that it should be left at 50 percent, especially as the report had recommended the removal of houses and reduced other benefits.

While recalling the recent murder of the president of Haiti, Obasa said it was necessary to also secure the lives of the former office holders.

"By virtue of my office, I have seen former Speakers who we just had to intervene in their lives because of the situations they found themselves outside office. We have also seen former governors in a very bad situation," he said.

Obasa noted the argument of his colleagues that the projected downward review of the pension for the former governors and others could also be affected by inflation and other economic considerations, but reminded that the House must meet the wishes of the people one of which is a cut in the cost of governance.

"There is no argument, we must realise that this is democracy and it is all about the people. We are here because of the people. When we represent people, it is good for us to listen to them as well.

"We must realise that we would always go back to the people for support. So when we hearken to their agitations and reduce what existed, it shows that we listen," Obasa told his colleagues adding that his suggestion for further reduction of the number of cars was because "as you age, your needs continue to decrease."

Earlier some of the lawmakers had supported the report of the committee saying it would have a positive impact on the internally generated revenue of the state.

Cleaner Lagos: Sanwo-Olu Launches 102 Locally Assembled Compactor Trucks, 100 Dino Bins To Boost Waste Collection | AgegePulse Magazine

•Governor Urges Residents to Repay Gesture with Prompt Payment of Waste Bills

An unprecedented intervention has been put forward to address logistical and operational shortfall in collection of waste across Lagos State.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday, bolstered the fleet of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) with 102 units of brand new locally assembled compactor trucks and 100 units of double dino waste bins in a bid to reduce turn-around time in waste evacuation within the metropolis, thereby achieving cleaner and healthier environment.

Lawma trucks

Governor Sanwo-Olu inaugurated the compactor trucks at an elaborate event held at the State House, Alausa, and witnessed by stakeholders in the waste service sector, including Private Sector Participants (PSP) operators.

The assets comprised 30 units of 12-cubic meter trucks, 60 units of 24-cubic meter trucks and 12 hook loaders. They will be complementing over 850 PSP compactor trucks to enhance service delivery in under-served communities across the State.

The compactor trucks were assembled by LAWMA technicians in conjunction with Dangote Sinotruk Manufacturing firm. They are designed according to the local requirements to aid clearing of waste from generating points to transfer-loading stations. Each compactor truck has three years warranty and maintenance package.

Besides, the Governor formally launched a mobile application called “CitiMonitor”, which would enable monitoring and reporting of environmental infractions, including indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

Sanwo-Olu said the new waste collection machinery were not being deployed to edge the PSP operators out of the business. He noted that the compactors would make trips only to public places and major roads to take waste, while the PSP operators would continue with their commercial and residential waste collections.

He said: “Today, we are unveiling new equipment that will enable LAWMA to effectively fulfil its mandate. This is testament to our administration’s determination to secure the public and environmental health of the State, as well as to improve the aesthetic value of the environment in line with Health and Environment pillar of our T.H.E.M.E.S agenda.

“This intervention represents one of the largest singular investments ever in the waste management sector in Lagos. We are confident that the addition of these new assets to our existing ones will quickly bring about visible improvements in waste evacuation and reduce the incidence of blackspots that blight our roads and clog our drains.”

Sanwo-Olu urged the residents to reciprocate the gesture by promptly paying their waste disposal dues to ensure improved service delivery. In the coming weeks, the Governor said LAWMA would be rolling out acquisition scheme to assist willing PSP operators to replace rickety waste collection trucks in their fleet.

He observed that the Government was fully aware of the potential of waste economy, stressing that the waste-to-wealth programme of the State had started to take shape, given the expansion of Lagos Recycling Initiative.

The Governor said there was ongoing rehabilitation work on the State-owned compost facility in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, while the Government has ramped up resources for the construction of three new transfer-loading stations to provide the infrastructure that would facilitate the effective disposal of solid waste.

He said: “I urge Lagosians to take responsibility for the waste we generate and act as responsible citizens at all times. We cannot continue to litter our roads with filth, dump waste on the roadside or in illegal dumpsites, or patronise cart-pushers for waste disposal.

“This intervention calls for a complete change of attitude towards our environment, beginning with basic hygiene at home, proper domestic waste management and ultimately, environment-friendly practices. The quality of our environment directly impacts the quality of the lives we live. A clean environment is a major weapon against diseases and other public health challenges.”

The Governor also charged LAWMA workers who would be operating the new implements to handle them with care and put to good use, reiterating that he would spare no effort in restoring aesthetic of Lagos.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tunji Bello, said it was the second time the State would be witnessing such massive intervention in waste management after the 2008 delivery of 100 compactor trucks to LAWMA by the Babatunde Fashola administration.

“This is a remarkable accomplishment that will enhance the cleanliness and adequate sanitisation. It is part of our resolve towards helping to build the capacity of some of the private investors in the waste management value chain. The real celebration would be when we look back in a few months from now and can see commensurate improvement in the waste management fortunes of the State,” Bello said.

By their design, LAWMA Managing Director, Ibrahim Odumboni, said the new compactors were fabricated to address the problem of liquids dripping from waste trucks - the snag synonymous with second-hand trucks mostly used by PSP operators.

He said the new compactor trucks were fitted with sitting compartments for waste collection assistants to prohibit hanging on the trucks.

Odumboni said the trucks would be distributed across the four operational districts of the agency, while the double dino waste bins would be stationed at muster points across major markets.

“We will not take this intervention for granted, because we know that these assets have been acquired at great cost amid economic challenges and so many other competing needs. I assure Mr. Governor and Lagosians that these working assets will be properly looked after,” the LAWMA boss said.

Representative of Waste Recyclers’ Association, Femi Idowu, described the achievement as “laudable”, saying the Governor had further elevated waste management as a key development agenda in Lagos.
