Dr Ayandele Sets To Partner Agege LGA On Educational Developmental Programmes

...Visits Egunjobi To Map Out Strategies

AgegePulse Magazine

The Tutor General/ Permanent Secretary of Lagos Education District One, Dr Mrs Yinka Ayandele yesterday, paid a courtesy call on the Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government Area, Alhaji Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi at his office in Agege.

AgegePulse gathered that yesterday's  meeting was the first time the two Agege role models will be meeting officially.

It was learnt that part of the discussions at the meeting was deliberation on the need to develop more educational programmes that would improve the standard of basic and secondary education in Agege.

It was gathered that Dr Ayandele used the medium to acquaint Egunjobi with the upcoming programmes of EDDI, while inviting him to grace the occasion as a special guest of honour.

She shared some of the district's achievements recently, stating that she plans to partner Agege LGA on educational programs that will have lasting positive impact on Agege scholars.

Responding, Egunjobi appreciated Dr Ayandele's developmental strides since her appointment as the TGPS of EDDI which have given Agege marvelous scorecard in the education sector.

While highlighting some of his achievements in the development of education since he assumed office, Egunjobi said education is one of major focus of his administration, hence the investment in both academic and vocational studies to gainfully engage Agege youths.

He stressed that it is an honour to have someone like Dr Ayandele as part of the system in Agege, while assuring her of his support for the district's activities

Oyo State Government Finally Reconstructing Yinka Ayefele’s Music House

Oyo State Government has fulfilled its promise by reconstructing Yinka Ayefele’s Music House, Fresh FM, which was demolished on August 19, 2018.

On Sunday, August 19 2018, the ancient city of Ibadan woke up to the depressing news that the Music House belonging to tungba musician, Yinka Ayefele was being demolished.
Not only was this a big loss for the entertainment guru but it also meant residents of Ibadan and environs would lose the pleasure of enjoying the services of Fresh FM.

The city was full of emotion; anger, sorrow and pity. Sympathizers thronged the site and tears flowed freely as they wondered what Yinka Ayefele had done to deserve such disaster.

Bounce News rushed to the scene and confirmed a partial demolition of some conspicuous parts of the beautiful building and damages done to several equipment worth millions of naira
The Oyo State Government carried out the demolition claiming infringement of some building laws but after the media outcry and the condemnation of the masses, the story has now changed.

The Governor Ajimobi led APC government has taken up the responsibility to rebuild the same structure it demolished for violating state laws.
Bounce News visited Ibadan again and met construction workers at work even late into Saturday evening.

We gathered they have a deadline to ensure that the building gets its look back by December 2018.

The Head of News at Fresh FM radio in Ibadan, Samson Akindele, confirmed that it will be ready before December to enable them meet up preparation for the Christmas celebration which the radio station organises for children every year.

“A lot has happened since the demolition in August. We’ve had a lull in the activities going on here.

“Just about two weeks ago, after all the meetings and agreements, the ministry of works in Oyo state through the office of the permanent secretary and the commissioner came in to start fulfilling the promise the governor made that indeed the partial demolition was an activity done in error.”

One would expect that there would be corrections done to the building, but the Fresh FM management and owners of the Music House are still waiting to see what would change.

Bounce News sought the opinions of several persons within and outside Oyo state and there are many questions the people are asking.
Would Governor Abiola Ajimobi have swallowed his pride to reverse his earlier decision if this was not an election season?

Would this building ever remain the same again with the pillars now likely weakened by the demolition or the government has just created a disaster waiting to happen?

Why would a government waste tax payers’ money to demolish a building that now has been proven not to have erred, just to persecute a perceived personal enemy?

Minimum Wage: We Can Only Pay N30,000 If We Sack Some Workers — Governors

AgegePulse Magazine

Thirty-six state governors under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, met last night in Abuja, saying only Lagos State Government can pay the new minimum wage of N30,000.

The governors also resolved to downsize, if they must pay the new minimum wage.

Members of the committee to see President Buhari are governors of Lagos, Akinwumi Ambode; Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, Simon Lalong of Plateau State; Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State; Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State; Dave Umahi of Benue State; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State; and Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State.

The governors insisted that though they were willing to pay any amount, asking all states to pay N30,000 demanded by organized labour would render many states bankrupt, saying the only way states could pay was to either downsize their workforce or the Federal Government agrees to a new revenue allocation formula.

ONLY LEADERS WITH INTEGRITY CAN DRIVE NIGERIA’S ECONOMIC GROWTH – AMBODE

…Lagos Gov’s Passion, Doggedness
Commendable, Says Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday said if Nigeria must develop and have sizable improvement in the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), people of good conscience and high integrity must be at the drivers’ seat in all spheres of the economy.

Speaking at Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja when he received national leadership of the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International (Nigeria) on a courtesy visit, Governor Ambode said the country stands to benefit a lot when good business practice is combined with excellent religious conscience, saying such would obviously result in growth and development.

According to him, “The economy of Lagos cannot be that productive to improve the GDP if there are no people with good conscience and this is what this fellowship stands for. It is not enough for you to have resources, it is not enough for you to have people that can improve productivity but again there are people who have to be drivers to arrive at the GDP or the kind of nation that we want.”

The Governor said since his assumption of office in the last three and half years, concerted efforts had been made to ensure religious harmony and also create greater enabling environment for businesses to thrive, saying it was gratifying that the State had experienced peaceful co-existence among religious groups.

“One thing that I can assure of is our continuous support. Like you must have noticed in the last three years, we have ensured that there is proper religious harmony in this State and there has never been any single incident of religious crisis.

“Obviously, we recognize the fact that Lagos is a cosmopolitan State but irrespective of that, we have allowed a whole lot of freedom of space because that is the thing that actually drives productivity.

“All we do as a government is just to ensure that we create an enabling environment for people to practice religion without interference and at the same time greater enabling environment for them to do their businesses. So, when we combine good businesses and good religious conscience, obviously the nation will grow and then the nation will develop,” Governor Ambode said.

While describing members of the fellowship as distinguished personalities in various fields, the Governor equally commended them for holding their annual convention in Lagos, saying it was instructive that such was taking place at a time that the nation needs a lot of prayers.

Earlier, National President of the fellowship, Mr. Ifeanyi Odedo, who led the delegation, said the team was at Lagos House to officially inform the Governor of the ongoing 87th National Convention of the Fellowship, and also to explore partnership in key areas to grow the country’s GDP such as housing, agro industry, and information communication technology, among others.

Odedo also commended the Governor for his giant strides in the last three and half years, saying it was commendable that he had given priority to people-oriented policies and programs.

“We appreciate the kind of grace that God has bestowed upon you. In the past number of years that you have served this State as Executive Governor, we have seen your doggedness, we have seen your passion, we have seen your integrity, we have seen the spirit of professionalism and excellence with people-oriented programs that are very impactful.

“Suffice it to say that you have left a great legacy in the sand of history. I want to put on record that what God has deposited in you with which you have served this State in the past three and half years or thereabout, that thing will still find expression in no distant time. All things work together for good and because you are carrying the spirit of the Lord, the Lord is setting before you an open door and no man can shut it,” Odedo said.

Anguish In Igbogbo Community Of Ikorodu In Lagos After Discovering 2 Children, 1 Dog Dead Inside Freezer

AgegePulse Magazine

Residents of Ikorodu in Lagos were on Sunday thrown into mourning when the corpse of two children and a dog were found in a freezer.

According to NAN, the incident was said to have occurred at 2, Christian Onoja Street, Igbogbo in Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Government Development Area at 4.30pm.

A neighbour who preferred anonymity told NAN that the children, Emmanuel Edeh, seven years and Darasimi Edeh, female, four years and their father, Mr Michael Edeh, were at home on the day of the incident.

“On Sunday afternoon, we were alerted by their father who emerged from within the house asking about the whereabouts of his children.

“We were surprised because their father is always at home with the kids when their mother goes about her trading.

“So, when their father came asking us (neighbours) about where his children were, we all began to search the neighbourhood for them, but could not find them,’’ the source, said.

The source added that when initial efforts to locate the children proved abortive, a call was put through to the mother of the kids, who came running down to their residence.

“Their mother was visibly disturbed upon arrival and immediately began to search for them, this time, in the house.

“After a while, she came wailing that she discovered the lifeless body of children and their dog inside the freezer,’’ the source added.

NAN gathered that the children were taken to a hospital within the community, but were told that the children had died which prompted the incident to be reported at the Igbogbo Police Division on Sunday evening.

When NAN visited the Briggston Hospital in Selewu, Igbogbo, where the children were taken he was told that the children were dead on arrival.

“It is true that I received a case involving two children, but upon assessment, I discovered that they had passed on and there was no resuscitation effort that could be performed on them.

“So, I advised the parents to go and conduct an autopsy to ascertain the real cause of death,’’ Dr. Briggs Umezurike, told NAN.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, told NAN that the Commissioner of Police had been informed about the incident.

“I have confirmed the matter and the CP directed that the father of the children be brought to notice to know his ulterior motive or whether it is an act of negligence,” he said.

El-rufai Issues Demolition Notices To 40 Churches, 16 Schools

A large crowd of residents of Gbagyi Villa – a suburb of Kaduna metropolis trooped out, carrying placards in protest against demolition notices issued to them by Kaduna State Urban Planning Development Authority, KASUPDA. The residents said they had been living in the community for decades and had acquired the necessary titles to the lands and, as such, were jolted by the intention of Kaduna State government to eject them.

Mr. Chris Obodum, Chairman, Gbagyi Community, later told journalists that the community boasted of about 3,500 buildings, 40 churches, 16 schools and 35,000 residents. He narrated: ‘The story of Gbagyi Villa is easy to understand. For hundreds of years, the area has been inhabited by the Gbagyi people.

El-Rufai later told journalists that the residents of Gbagyi Villa were illegal squatters and that anyone who did not have C-of-O and Building Permit would have his house pulled down. Since none of the residents has C-of-O, it invariably means that the ‘Villa’ will be demolished.

I'Ve Never Been Declared Mentally Unstable, Sanwo-Olu Tells INEC

AgegePulse Magazine

The Lagos State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says he has never been declared unfit and having unsound mind at any point in time.

This is contrary to allegations levelled against him by the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode.

The governor on September 30, 2018 while addressing a World Press Conference alleged that Sanwo-Olu was once a patient at the Gbagada General Hospital, Lagos, where he underwent rehabilitation.

Sanwo-Olu had emerged as the governorship candidate of the party in the state based on the support received from the Mandate Movement of the Lagos APC and that of the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Ambode, who lashed out at his then opponent for the party’s governorship primary election, after failing to secure the backing of the Mandate Movement for a second term, had said, “The aspirant that has been put up to contest against me (referring to Sanwo-Olu) is not a fit and proper person to take this job.”

He had added, “This particular aspirant is somebody that has been arrested for spending fake dollars in a nightclub in America, and was detained for months.

“It is also known that he doesn’t have the competence to do what he is being propelled to do. This is somebody that has gone for rehabilitation before. The records are there at the Gbagada General Hospital.”

But in the Form CF001 submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission by Sanwo-Olu, he said he had never at any time been adjudged to be of unsound mind.

Responding to one of the questions in the form: “Have you ever been adjudged a lunatic or declared to be of unsound mind?” the governorship candidate ticked “No.”

According to INEC, one of the grounds for disqualification for anyone seeking public offices specified in sections 65, 106, 131 and 177 of the 1999 Constitution is if such a person is “adjudged to be a lunatic or declared to be of unsound mind.”

Meanwhile, Sanwo-Olu and his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Jimi Agbaje, failed to attach their tax certificates to the Form CF001 submitted to INEC.

Our correspondent observed this at the INEC office in Yaba, Lagos, where names of governorship candidates in the state were pasted.

However, analysts said they did no wrong since submission of tax certificate was not required by the candidates in the Electoral Act.

“They could have attached their tax certificates in the name of transparency,” a Lagos-based lawyer and political commentator, Mr Niyi Abayomi, said.

AgegePulse Magazine

A member of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council, GAC, Senator Anthony Adefuye, disclosed how party leaders in Lagos East Senatorial District fought to secure the second term ticket for Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

Adefuye disclosed this at a reconciliation meeting held at CMD Shangisha in Lagos.
Ambode Adefuye, the APC Lagos East Senatorial District Leader, said: “People accused us of removing Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

We saw this crack four months ago and we decided to meet with our Lagos Central Senatorial Leader, Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi and we went to see Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. “We asked Tinubu if there was any problem, and he said that there was a problem and he narrated it. “We prostrated and asked him to call Ambode and speak with him.

“We left the place and started calling Gov Ambode to give him a hint of the meeting, but he did not pick our calls. Asiwaju Tinubu said that he was not picking his calls too. I actually tried my best.

“We rose up to defend Ambode. We didn’t just follow Asiwaju like sheep, we fought and we tried. “Those of us in the East nearly burst into tears for the opportunity we lost in Lagos East. “I fought tooth and nail to make sure that the position was not taken away from us.

It was a great opportunity that we lost. “Anyone that is not a party man should not be elected into positions. Take this advice and make sure you don’t make the same mistake.”

Court Seals Diamond Bank, First Bank, Two Others

Four Banks were sealed on Wednesday by the National Industrial Court in Owerri, Imo State for disregarding its order which was issued in favour of a former Gov. Ikedi Ohakim.
The banks are: Diamond bank Item St.branch, First Bank Plc, Bank road branch, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Mbari St. branch and the branch Union Bank at Bank road in Owerri.
An order for execution issued by Justice O.O. Arowosegbe, was displayed on each of the affected branch.
“An order granting leave to issue writ of execution of the order of this honourable court made in this suit on February 23, 2018, against, second, third, sixth and seventh garnishees, that is Diamond Bank, First Bank, United Bank for Africa and Union Bank PLC, respectively,” NAN quoted the order on display.
A document of a court judgment on display at UBA indicated that the judgment mandated the affected banks to pay the plaintiff his claims from Imo State Government accounts domiciled with the banks, an order they had defied.
The judgment which was dated February 23, 2018 reads in part, “Order absolute is made against the fifth garnishee (Skye Bank) to the tune of N112, 000,000.00.
“Order absolute to the tune of forty-four million, seven hundred and ninety thousand, eight hundred and thirty-one Naira, thirty-four kobo (N44, 790,831.34), is made against the sixth garnishee (UBA), less the minimum amount required to maintain the account.
“Order absolute is made against the seventh garnishee (Union Bank ) to the total sum of N8.8 million, less the minimum amount required to maintain the account.
“The fourth garnishee is accordingly discharged.
“In all, the degree absolute has been made on a cumulative total of N290 million.
“The total sum is to be paid over to this court vide the Chief Registrar, National Industrial Court of Nigeria within 14 days next.”
However, Ohakim had gone to court owing to the failure of his successor, Gov. Rochas Okorocha, to pay him his entitlements as a former governor of the state.
The court delivered judgment in his (Ohakim’s) favour on May 24, 2016, but Okorocha allegedly refused to honour the court judgment.
The ex-governor again went to court to enforce the judgment against the state governor by asking the court to issue an order to the banks where Imo State Government accounts are domiciled to pay him.
The court granted the request through a garnishee order on Feb. 23, but the banks failed to pay the plaintiff.
Ohakim also went back to the court to get an order for the sealing off of the affected banks until the entitlements are paid.
A bank staff, who confirmed the development to the press, said that their branch has been sealed by the court.
“There is a garnishee order in a case involving former Gov. Ikedi Ohakim and Gov. Rochas Okorocha ordering us to honour a court judgment, but our bank did not obey court rule,” he staff said.
A notice of attachment from court in Owerri, dated Nov. 6, was pasted in front of the banks indicated that the affected banks had failed to honour a garnishee order issued by the court.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who visited the areas saw the banks’ staff and customers stranded.

Fayose asked us to support Fayemi – Ekiti PDP Assembly members

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members from the Ekiti State House of Assembly yesterday said that it was the immediate past governor of the State, Mr Ayodele Fayose that directed them to support Governor Kayode Fayemi in the interest of Ekiti.

This is just as they denied that they have decamped to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

They made the disclosure yesterday when the Deputy Speaker, Mr Adewumi Olusegun briefed newsmen in Ado Ekiti on behalf of other caucus members.

He said, “We remain committed members of the PDP as against insinuation in some quarters that we have decamped to APC.

“We make bold to say that our support for the state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi was at the instance of the outgone Governor Ayodele Fayose who directed that we should co-operate with the governor elect then in the interest of Ekiti State.

“It was on this premise of the advice that we acted, because Ekiti agenda is bigger than any individual or political party.”

Olusegun said that Senator Olujimi is the most eminently qualified at the moment to be in the leadership position as the highest political office holder presently in the state.

He described those having different opinion as “mischievous, lazy and political jobbers as there is no contest about the leadership of the party since the position is not contested for but earned.”

Olusegun described the House of Reps members in Ekiti as ‘yes men who are not capable of having opinion of their own’.

The lawmakers declared that Tope Aluko, the erstwhile secretary of the party in the state, remained a bonafide member of the PDP and was not at any time expelled.

Operator to assemble BRT Buses in Lagos 2019

The operator of Bus Rapid Transit system in Lagos, Primero Transport Services Limited, has said its bus assembly plant being built in the state will begin operation in the second quarter of next year.

The Managing Director of the firm, Mr Fola Tinubu, disclosed this in Lagos on Tuesday.

He also spoke on plans by the firm to phase out manual ticketing and replace it with a card system in the first quarter of 2019.

Tinubu said that Primero had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with one of the biggest bus manufacturers in the world, Yutong, to establish the bus assembly plant in Lagos.

Already, he said that the plant had been set up in Epe and expressed the hope that it would go into mass production of high capacity buses by the second quarter of 2019 when a new BRT corridor being constructed by the Lagos State Government between Oshodi and Abule-Egba would have been completed and allowed to operate.

According to him, the transport firm which started full operation in November 2015, currently has 434 buses conveying 150,000 people daily across major terminals between Ikorodu and Tafawa Balewa Square.

Tinubu said the company planned to increase to 200,000 passengers daily on the Ikorodu/TBS corridor, adding that should Primero win the bid to operate the Abule-Egba/Oshodi corridor, it would deploy additional 350 buses in the route.

He said the organisation hoped to increase its buses to 2,000 with capacity to convey one million passengers daily.

On the plan to completely phase out manual ticketing in the first quarter of 2019, he said all passengers would be compelled to embrace the card system to remove the hassle of queuing to buy tickets.

He called for a conference of all the stakeholders to discuss how to make the public transportation work in Lagos and ensure its viability for investors.

“The discussion must hold if you don’t want the BRT system to collapse like the LSTC and other public transportation arrangements,” he said.

The MD said Primero, 100 per cent privately-owned, had been paying certain percentage of its revenue to the state government giving it the exclusive right to use the dedicated BRT lanes constructed by the government.

Tinubu, however, noted that there had not been any increase in bus fares in the last eight years, despite continuous rise in its operational costs.

“Our biggest challenge is the naira devaluation. We borrow a lot of money in dollars; we import parts in dollars and when the naira nose-dived, our debts doubled and the cost of parts we use has doubled,” he said.
