Apapa gridlock: Lagos reconstitutes Joint Security Task Force to ensure sanity

…Orders Police, other Security Agencies to strictly enforce Traffic Law, okada ban

…Restates ban on industrial fireworks, assures residents of peaceful yuletide celebration

The Lagos State Government has reconstituted the Joint Security Task Force established to tackle Apapa gridlock and other security threats within the axis brought about by the blockade of major roads in the area by tankers and containerized trucks.

The Apapa gridlock, in the past few weeks, had worsened due to breakdown of operations at the ports located in the axis.

Rising from the monthly Security Council meeting held at the Lagos House in Ikeja chaired by the State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode and attended by heads of security formations in the State, the State Government said the Task Force comprising of police, military, officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) would immediately be deployed to the axis to ensure sanity and contain any potential security threat.

While briefing Government House Correspondents at the end of the meeting, the State’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal said while the issues that gave rise to the gridlock were being addressed, the Task Force would ensure that the roads in the axis were not totally locked down, and also prevent criminal elements from taking advantage of the gridlock to perpetrate their nefarious activities.

Edgal, who addressed the briefing alongside commanders of security formations in the State, said: “We deliberated extensively on the Apapa gridlock and the Governor has approved with immediate effect the reconstitution of a Joint Task Force made up of police, the military, LASTMA and FRSC officials to ensure that whilst the major problems that gave rise to that situation in the first instance are being tackled, we on our part as security agencies, will ensure that we have a good semblance of decency on our roads.

“We will ensure that we create a corridor for smaller vehicles and ensure that there is no complete blockade to free flow of traffic. We will also have plain cloth and uniformed security agencies ensuring that there is no crime in the axis due to the traffic gridlock.”

The CP, who assured residents that every necessary arrangement had been made to ensure peaceful yuletide season, said the Council also approved increased visibility and patrol in all parts of the State, especially in areas there are traffic gridlock as a result of construction activities.

Already, Edgal said due to increased patrol, about 35 notorious traffic robbers were recently arrested in Ilupeju and Oshodi axis, many of whom he said are ex-convicts and would soon be charged to court at the end of investigation.

He added that as a result of the community policing and community safety partnership strategy adopted by the Lagos Police Command, there had been about 35 per cent drop in issues of residential robberies, while more boats had been handed over to Marine Police by the State Government to secure the waterways and riverine areas especially to checkmate incursions by militants and secure schools in such areas, in addition to the Tactic Guards already formed.

Speaking on ongoing clampdown on commercial motorcycles popularly known as Okada on restricted routes, Edgal said security agencies in the State have been given marching orders to strictly enforce the traffic law, and that no lawlessly or breakdown of law and order would be condoned.

He particularly admonished motorists and transport unions to impress it on their members to obey traffic laws, just as he said Okada riders must not only refrain from restricted routes, but also use helmets both for rider and passenger and not carry more than one person at a time, among other rules of engagement.

“We have the Lagos State Traffic Law and it is our responsibility to enforce the law. Motorists, motorcyclists and other form of road users must obey the law. Our men have been mandated to enforce all aspects of the law not only prohibition along some routes but also those aspects that have to do with safety. We don’t want officers and men to be challenged unduly when they are enforcing the law and I want to use this opportunity to call on the unions, especially the Okada unions to call their members to cooperate with the police. They should not form themselves into pressure and riotous groups to challenge the police and other security agencies,” Edgal said.

He said aside the security measures already put in place for residents and visitors to experience a peaceful yuletide season, any resident who sell, distribute or use industrial fireworks would be arrested and charged to court, saying that the ban on such is still very much in force.

Besides, Edgal thanked Lagosians for their cooperation with security agencies so far and urged people to continue to volunteer useful information that would help arrest potential security threat.

Nnamdi Kanu Allegedly Disappeared With IPOB's £14M, $22M

The international media arm of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Radio Biafra, has resumed operations.

But instead of the fiery rhetoric with which it was associated with, the radio announced the sack of Nnamdi Kanu, as director and leader of IPOB.

According to Okorafor, one “Mazi Ezenwachukwu Sampson Okwudili is Kanu’s replacement.”

She reeled out reasons why Kanu was removed to include: “Personalisation of the Biafran struggle and derailing from the core objectives of IPOB as a grassroots movement.

“Kanu’s actions and his decisions to incite members of IPOB towards violence leading to the death of many innocent young people in Onitsha, Aba and Umuahia is totally unacceptable and grossly irresponsible.

“Kanu privately collected £14 million and another $22 million to purchase landed properties abroad in his name and that of his father, Igwe Israel Kanu, in a clear case of ‘monkey dey work baboon dey chop’.

“Kanu turned our collective struggle into a money-making enterprise for himself and his father. Thus the monies contributed by enterprising and hard-working Igbo youths across the world are being collected and converted by one man and his father while pretending to be sacrificing for the cause.

Lagos to ease the process of doing business - Ambode

...Lagos International Trade Fair, the biggest fair in Nigeria, Mrs. Nike Akande

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Sunday assured residents that the State Government would continue its support for the business community through policies that will ease the process of doing business across the metropolis.

The Governor, who gave the assurance through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tunji Bello at the closing ceremony of the 2017 Lagos International trade fair held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, added that it is a necessary condition for the achievement of its goals to become the Third Largest Economy in Africa by 2020 and Africa’s Model Mega City by 2025.

He stressed that the State Government's policy objectives on job/wealth creation as well as improved productivity is predicated on its ability to create and sustain a conducive business environment that will attract more private sector investments particularly in the critical and largely untapped sectors of the state's economy.

"Towards this end, we shall sustain the existing robust partnership with the private sector in the area of evolving sound policies that will stand the test of time and provide the roadmap in our journey to economic prosperity", he reiterated.

The Governor said the essence of Trade Fair is basically to provide a platform for players\manufacturers in the real sector to network and showcase their products to the general public in one location.

He averred that new products are introduced while consumers are given the opportunity to meet one on one with manufacturers of their favourite products without traveling long distances with its associated costs.

Ambode hinted that the present administration is proud to support and identify with the annual event which has continued to consolidate the status of the State as the melting point of trade and economic activities in the West Africa sub-region.

Earlier in her remarks, the President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Mrs. Nike Akande expressed appreciation to the State Government for transforming the State positively, adding that the state can now compete with great cities across the world.

She said LCCI in the last 30 years has consistently hosted the Lagos International Trade Fair, the biggest fair in Nigeria in order to respond to yearnings of the business world and Nigerians, noting that that the fair has attracted manufacturers locally, from China, Pakistan and India, among others.

LASG tasks staff on sound policy formulation, implementation

Lagos State Government has tasked its workforce to come up with suggestions on how to formulate and execute government policies that would address challenges confronting majority of the populace.

The State Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr. Akintola Benson-Oke gave the charge today at the opening session of a workshop tagged: Policy Analysis Development and Implementation, organised by the State Government for Policy Analysts in Lagos Public Service at Ikeja.

He maintained that those involved in government policy process need to possess strong analytical skills and ability to apply a variety of research and evaluation methods within a complex political and economic environment.

The Commissioner said that the training will review the analytical approaches that are essential for effective policy development in modern times.

The training will cover the nature and role of policy analysts and the interaction among social institutions, markets and government. It will examine how to conduct effective policy analysis, manage the policy development process, and produce sound and persuasive policy reports and recommendation to the government, he said.

He informed that policy-making and implementation functions in governance are important because governments are repeatedly confronted with problems that call for apt and appropriate solutions.

Benson-Oke added that challenges of governance in recent time have taken complex features and as such a government of metropolitan state like Lagos must have a pool of skilled, trained and current policy analysts and developers who will assist the government in designing the right, appropriate and sustainable answers to complex and urgent problems.

The Commissioner said that the present administration is taking up challenges to aspire to the highest standards of governance and administration that the citizens expect of the government.

He maintained that all the achievements of the Ambode-led administration since inception is hinged on the quality of reforms and policies enunciated by the government policy makers, adding that there is little or nothing that could be achieved by any government without a robust policy-making process.

He, therefore, urged participants to embrace the capacity development initiative and open their minds to new ideas that might emanate in the course of the training.

I exhort public policy analysts and developers in the Lagos State Public Service to learn to focus quickly on the central decision criterion of a problem requiring attention, avoid the Tool-box Approach to analysing policies and also learn how to deal with uncertainty, Benson-Oke reiterated.

I’m Under Pressure To Contest In 2019, Says Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan says people have been asking him to contest the 2019 election.

In an interview with Dele Momodu, celebrity journalist, the immediate past president said he is moved to tears seeing people shouting “GEJ, we want you back.

Jonathan, who ruled out the possibility of returning to office, said reflections on his achievements and mistakes make him sober.

I’m not God but I sincerely doubt the possibility, Jonathan was quoted to have said in response to a question on the next election.

People come to me every day saying they want me back. I’m always moved to tears whenever I go out and see the huge crowds shouting GEJ, we want you, even in the north.

Instead of getting swollen headed, I actually reflect on my achievements and mistakes and feel humbled and feel very sober…

I have never been a man of inordinate ambition. I’m a man of very modest means. I hardly travel because of the logistical costs. I’ve played my part and I have moved on.

Asked what he would do if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gives him its presidential ticket in 2019, he said: Are you not aware that our party has zoned the presidency to the north, and the chairmanship to the south?

Even Fayose that has declared his interest may face big challenges because of the decision of our party.

Xmas decorations: LASPARK calls on "Green Partners" to support Government- AgegePulse

The General Manager of the LagosState Parks and Gardens Agency, (LASPARK), Mrs. Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola, has called on all the “Green Partners” of the State to support the Government’s Christmas decoration exercise by beautifying and lighting up the sites adopted by their organisations.

The General Manager, who made the call during a breakfast meeting organised by the Agency for the private sector, described the meeting as a unique opportunity for the agency and its stakeholders to share ideas on how to advance the course of the state's greening initiative.

While acknowledging the contributions of some of its partners who had over the years embraced the Christmas lighting and decoration project, Adebiyi-Abiola, appealed to other partners to key into the project as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility by adding glamour to the Yuletide festivities.

She acknowledged the roles of all the environmentally friendly organisations towards the sustainability of the greening programme in the State and noted that more efforts were needed.

One mitigating measure against the adverse effect of climate change and global warming is to increase the green cover immensely and this can only be achieved through conscious, intensive and aggressive landscaping, beautification and tree planting activities which our partners have keyed into, she said.

She stated that the meeting had afforded her the opportunity to understand some of the challenges faced by some partners and assured them that she would look into the identified challenges and see how best to collaborate to continuously improve the living environment and wellbeing of Lagosians through landscaping, beautification and tree planting.

She said: Your immeasurable financial and material contributions in nurturing and keeping the adopted sites green and clean cannot be overemphasized. I enjoin you to do more so that we can bequeath an enviable environment to the generation yet unborn.

Present at the meeting were representatives of Zenith Bank, Fidelity Bank, Sterling Bank, Kiosque Vegetal, Shodex Gardens, F-Plus, Chevron Nigeria, Nigerian Bottling Company, among others.

Ex-Super Eagles player arraigned for battering wife

…victim suffered internal bleeding – Lagos DPP

A former player with the Super Eagles, Godwin Okpara, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court for allegedly battering his wife, Linda Oladoyinbo, at their house on Oduduwa Street, GRA, Ikeja.
Okpara played for the Super Eagles at the France 98 World Cup and African Nations Cup in 2000, among other tournaments.

Okpara and Oladoyinbo, who were based in France, where the former played for French club, PSG, had been married for over 25 years, and the union blessed with four children.
However, crisis started in the marriage in 2005 when the wife reported to the French authorities that Okpara was sleeping with their 13-year-old housemaid, Tina.

He was arrested and convicted for the crime.
While he served a 10-year prison term and was released in 2012, his wife got 15 years for child abuse.
Although Okpara was released early on the grounds of good conduct in prison, he forfeited all his property and money to the French government, who also took custody of the family’s three surviving children.
Oladoyinbo, after her release, returned to their house in Ikeja, in May 2016.

However, she was said to have met some persons in the house, which led to an argument between her and the husband.
Oladoyinbo, who wrote a petition to the police at the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, alleged that 45-year-old Okpara later brought some thugs into the house and ordered them to beat her up.
The attack, according to the petition, was because Oladoyinbo questioned the partitioning and sale of the family’s landed property in Ikeja.

One of her relatives was said to have videoed the attack and also took pictures of the injuries sustained by the victim.
Okpara, in his reaction, told the police that the fight happened after he returned home and discovered that his wife had stabbed one of his visitors.

The case was referred to the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions, which issued advice on it.
The advice, dated September 2017 and signed by the Director, Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Y.G. Oshoala, said the ex-international had a case to answer.

The advice said, Facts in the duplicate case file revealed that Mrs. Linda Oladoyinbo travelled to France for some time and upon her arrival, she was denied access to her matrimonial house by her husband– Godwin Okpara; and when she finally gained access after many weeks, she was only allowed into the guesthouse, while her husband’s brother and wife moved into the main house.

Further facts revealed that Mrs. Linda Oladoyinbo questioned Godwin Okpara about the joint property he sold without her knowledge and he beat her mercilessly with the participation of his brother and his wife. He equally brought thugs into the house, who beat her up with sticks upon which she suffered internal bleeding.

This is corroborated by a picture showing severe face injuries suffered by the wife and the medical report from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital indicating that she suffered serious injuries and was found bleeding from the nose and mouth as a result of the assault from the husband. The attached video record from the police clearly shows the suspect assaulting the complainant despite pleas from other observers.

The advice, which dismissed charges of forgery, stealing, malicious damage and threat to life due to lack of evidence, said the suspect should be arraigned on one count of assault occasioning harm.

The charge read, That you, Godwin Okpara, sometime in August 2016, on Oduduwa Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, unlawfully assaulted and injured one Linda Oladoyinbo, by flogging her with a stick and other weapons, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 173, Ch C.17, Vol.3 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty and elected summary trial.
His defence counsel, Malachi Odo, asked for his bail in liberal terms.
He said, “The defendant is an ex-player of the Super Eagles. He served his country honourably. We pray the court to grant him bail in liberal terms.”
The police prosecutor, Simon Imohwa, did not oppose the bail application.

Cancer and HIV/AIDs awareness: LASG seeks private sector partnership

The Lagos State Government has identified the need to explore the private sector involvement in its drive to increase public awareness on Cancer and HIV/AIDs as part of efforts to stem the spread of the deadly diseases.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Pharm. Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, said that there is a need for the Private Sector and Non-Governmental Organizations to continually support and partner with government in the area of research and public education of these common diseases in the society.

Speaking at an awareness outreach on Breast, Cervical Cancer Screening and HIV Testing and Counseling for Youth in Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area of the State, Akinbile-Yussuf added that the obligation of raising awareness about the potential killer diseases should be collectively pursued and not to be left to government alone.

She lamented that presently, there are no sufficient awareness and knowledge on the causes of breast cancer among young people, stressing that the level of awareness about the signs to look out for when undergoing breast cancer examination should be improved upon.

She said although the state government is aware of the heavy burden the diseases places on victims, the increment in awareness at all public and professional places will go a long way in reducing the spread with the assistance of other health intervention programmes in the state.

She added that research from the private sector will assist the government make adequate provision particularly on breast and cervical cancer awareness campaigns and also make some informed decisions.

Muri-Okunola advised the people to avail themselves with good health through eating a balanced diet; regular exercise and early detection to reduce chances of being infected with cancer, urging them to also raise awareness in their environments.

I sold my baby because I couldn’t train him – Father

A 23-year-old man, Kinsley Eze, has said that he sold his five months old baby boy for N250,000 due to lack of money to raise and train him.
Eze made the confession while in the custody of the police in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

He said he had agreed with his girlfriend to sell the baby before luck ran out on them.

Eze said, I am a mechanic. I was arrested for child trafficking. The baby is mine; my fiancee gave birth to him. We decided to sell the baby because I wasn’t making enough money to take care of him and the mother.

The police in the state also arrested another child trafficking suspect, Chinkata Chikezie, who reportedly sold his five-year-old son for an undisclosed amount.

According to a police source, the wife of the suspect, one Glory, had reported to the police at the Isiala Ngwa Local Government Area of the state that she woke up on October 16, 2017, and discovered that her baby was missing and the door to their room was open.
The source added that the complainant had raised the alarm and attracted the attention of her neighbours who searched for the missing boy.

He noted that when the villagers sighted her husband (Chikezie) returning home that morning, they handed him over to the police for questioning.
The source said, During interrogation, Chikezie confessed that he sold his son in connivance with one Kelechi John and Chikezie Ubabuike. Police operatives attached to the division swung into action, arrested the other suspects, and recovered the child.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Anthony Ogbizi, confirmed the arrest of the suspects.

He said they would be charged to court as soon as the command concluded investigation into the cases.

He said, Child trafficking is a serious crime against children, which is forbidden by our laws. As law enforcement agents, our duty is to investigate any case reported to us and unmask those behind the crime.

Okunnu Faults Akiolu, Says Lagos’ A Yoruba State

Former Federal Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Femi Okunnu has faulted the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu’s claim that Lagos is not part of Yoruba land.

Okunnu insisted that Lagos has always been a Yoruba State and remained as such.

Femi Okunnu

Speaking while delivering a lecture during the 40th anniversary celebration of Idungaran Club of Lagos, titled “Let Lagos State be,’’ Okunnu argued that the common language spoken in Lagos had always been Yoruba, notwithstanding the fact that there is a large percentage of its people whose ancestral were Bini or Tapa.

Okunnu said the same argument could be said for millions of Fulanis in Sokoto State/Adamawa, Gongola, Kano/Katsina State who were less Fulani in origin just because the common language of these Fulanis in those States is Hausa, and not Fulani.

“Lagos State was the first British Colony to be established in 1861 in modern-day Nigeria, followed by the protectorate of Southern Nigeria and the Protectorate of Northern Nigeria in 1900. Lagos colony, including Ikeja, Epe and Badagry divisions remained a separate administration from the two Protectorates or three Regions (1946-51) until 1951. Lagos was the centre of Nigerian politics until 1950.”

Okunnu further said that in 1954 under the Littleton constitution, Lagos city regained its independence from the West and became the Federal Territory (and a constituent unit of the Federation) until the creation of Lagos State in May 1967 when the colony province (Epe, Badagry and Ikeja) rejoined the city to constitute Lagos State in General Yakubu Gowon’s 12  State structure to replace the four regions under the 1963 constitution and that the battle for the independence of Nigeria was fought on the streets of Lagos by indigenes and non-indigenes.

President of Idunganran Club of Lagos, Chief Ganiu Abayomi-Badmus promised that the club would at all times looked after the welfare of its members and the community.

POLICE DISPERSE PROTESTING OKADA RIDERS IN OJO

Ojo Police Division led by CSP Abubakar Umoru, with the support of Okoko division, Rapid Response Squad and neighbouring divisions as well as army officers from Ojo cantonment, this morning dispersed hundreds of miscreants and motor cycle riders who blocked Lagos - Badagry Expressway to protest the enforcement of Lagos State Traffic Laws.

The riders along with miscreants as at 7:00 a.m. converged close to LASU main gate threatening to block the expressway in protest against plying the expressway, as stipulated in Lagos State Traffic Law.

Their presence on the highway in large numbers drew the attention of the DPO Ojo Police Division, CSP Umoru, who speedily mobilised his officers along with  Alhaji Usman Kanua, Chairman of the Motorcycle riders in the area.

The team appealed to the riders to cease action and eschew actions capable of causing chaos in the area. The protesters agreed and dispersed peacefully.

The protesters were to re - emerge later in greater numbers creating bon - fire and blocking both sides of the expressway.

The protesters who were wielding dangerous objects and hauling stones at police and passing vehicles, which shattered the windscreens of several vehicles, also injured some police officers.

It was at this point that the DPO called for reinforcement from other police divisions and Ojo Cantonment of the Nigerian Army.

At about few minutes to 10:00 a.m., the team had successfully dispelled the rioters while normalcy had since returned to the area.

It was gathered that contrary to Government's restriction of okada (motorcycle) on the highway, okada riders make fast money cashing in on the road construction on the route, to charge between N500 to N1000 from Ojo to Trade Fair Complex.

... Orders contractors to complete Ayinke House in six months

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday launched the new access road connecting the premises of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja from Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way.

Speaking at the launching, Governor Ambode expressed delight at the completion of the project, saying it was designed to facilitate faster access to medical care, thereby saving lives.

He said it was a thing of joy that after about three to four decades, another access road had been created to LASUTH.

In his words: We are delighted to be here. We believe strongly that the major cornerstone for the growth of the economy of Lagos actually lies in the hands of all of you here because if we don't have a healthy state, we cannot have a productive economy and that was why we decided that we would pay greater attention to the health sector.

While commending the management of the institution, Ambode assured that his administration would not relent in implementing policies and project to scale up the health sector.

The Governor, who also used the opportunity to inspect the progress of work on the LASUTH Maternity Hospital popularly known as Ayinke House, ordered contractors handling the project to ensure completion of the project within the next six months.

Earlier, the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, ProfessorAdewale David Oke commended Governor Ambode for his commitment to the health sector, saying several projects had been executed in the institution since the inception of the present administration.

Speaking on the launched  road, Oke said: This is a dream come true. For many years, we have had a problem with movement of patients into the hospital. Sometimes, they are in the ambulance for fifteen or twenty minutes before they can get in but this road has solved that problem.

Also speaking, Professor Babatunde Sholagbero, Provost of Lagos State University College of Medicine, said the completion of the road was a proof of a promise made and kept by the state government.

He also thanked Governor Ambode for facilitating the accreditation of Dentistry for the Institution, thereby making Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH / LASUCOM) the only state university in Nigeria that has a Bachelor of Dentistry degree.

He added: By the World Health Organisation (WHO) statistics, the accepted dentist to the patient population in the United States is 1 to 2000, but for Africa, is 1 to 150,000. So, for every dentist we produce, we will now have 150,000 Lagosians being catered for.

Aside from that, there are many other projects that the present administration has implemented in our institution and we are now a toast among other medical colleges, Solagbero said.

Agege, Orile Agege Swear-In SLGs, Supervisors Amidst Drama

...Plus Substantial List of Appointees

The confirmation and swearing in of Supervisors and Secretary to Local Government of Orile Agege Local Council Development Area and Agege Local Government, may have come and gone, it indeed left, with some pockets of drama.

It took the creative and sublime wisdom of the councils chairmen - Hon. Johnson Sunday Babatunde and Hon. Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi to avert the grievance of some quarters that could have snowballed into a mess of the credible confirmation and swearing-in process.

In Agege, the Legislative Arm was on top of the game to ensure a credible plenary session. During screening of the names presented before the Councilors under the leadership of Hon. Kolawole Anigbajumo, only two names (Akingbade Oke and Ganiyu Adeyemo) on the list, scaled through the councilors drills.

Others, according to Hon. Anigbajumo and other councilors failed the screening exercise on the ground of infidelity, insincerity, misrepresentation of documents, as well as aiding and abetting anti party shenanigans before, during and after the last Lagos Council election.

In Orile Agege LCDA, AgegePulse correspondent, Bunmi who monitored the screening exercise inside the council's Legislative Chamber reported that it was another show of misplaced appointment as most of the names on the initial list presented to the house have no iota of idea or knowledge of the party nor the communities they were appointed to oversee.

However, AgegePulse gathered that in a bid to prevent any sort of vacuum in the appointment and further delay in the swearing-in process, the councils chairmen presented another set of credible individuals to the respective chambers.

As expected, the new names went through the screening process and were officially confirmed by the Honourable members. Subsequently, they were sworn-in by the Chairmen.

However, the new development was like a torn in the flesh of those who failed the screening hitherto. They and their supporters, made moves to disrupt peace of the swearing in process but were duly checkmated by the security details provided by the two Councils Chairmen.

In fact some of them - such as Hon. Akin Oke, whose portfolio on the initial list was Secretary to Agege LG was later appointed as Supervisor for Budget and Planning. The same substitution was done in Orile Agege.

When AgegePulse asked why they acted against party's directive on the initial list, Hon. Egunjobi and Hon. J.S Babatunde, said the reassignment of the portfolios was done in the best interest of the All Progressives Congress and demands of their respective councils.

Now that the die has been cast in these highly sensitive councils with these appointments, we await the next political acrimony that would arrest the airwaves in coming weeks from the aggrieved factions.

Below are the substantial names and portfolios of the newly confirmed and sworn-in SLGs and Supervisors of the Agege LGA and Orile Agege LCDA:

Our achievements would have been impossible without Civil Servants – Ambode

…Swears-in new five new Perm Secs

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday commended the State Public Service for contributing immensely to the achievements recorded by his administration in the last two and a half years in office, saying the feats would have been impossible without the support of civil servants.

Speaking at the State Executive Chambers in Alausa, Ikeja while swearing-in five newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, Governor Ambode said since assumption of office on May 29, 2015, efforts have been made to fulfill the promises made to Lagosians, and that it was indeed gratifying that civil servants in the State not only keyed into his vision of a vibrant Lagos but have also been working hard and committed to making the plan a reality.

“In the last two and a half years, our administration has worked relentlessly to fulfill our promises to Lagosians. Our modest achievements in these past months would not have been possible without the support of the public service, most especially our Permanent Secretaries who have not only keyed into our vision of a vibrant Lagos but have also ensured that it becomes a reality through commitment and hard work,” Governor Ambode said.

He said aside the fact that Permanent Secretaries have been working hard to ensure the progress of the State, other officers from directors down the ladder of the civil service have equally been performing creditably well, adding that he was indeed appreciative of their dedication to duty, commitment and service to the State.

The new Permanent Secretaries, who have since been assigned portfolios, are Mrs. Ibirogba Clara Omotilewa (Office of Establishment and Training); Mr. Ogunnubi Timothy Olukayode (Ministry of Science and Technology); Dr. (Mrs.) Are Suwebat Iyabo (Primary Healthcare Board); Dr. Salaam Taiwo Olufemi (Ministry of Transportation); and Mrs. Awobamise Kofoworola Omotayo (Ministry of Information and Strategy).
While congratulating the appointees, Governor Ambode said their elevation was not just about filling the vacancies created by those who have retired, but a way of rewarding hard work and diligence, as well as a reaffirmation that any member of any discipline could rise to the peak in the civil service.

He said according to available facts, the new Permanent Secretaries as directors, demonstrated loyalty and commitment through active involvement in the implementation of some of the policies of the present administration, just as he expressed optimism that their appointment would be a source of encouragement to all officers who are diligent in the discharge of their duties as civil servants.

Besides, Governor Ambode charged the new appointees to contribute their quota to the development of the State and add value to governance.
“To the new appointees, it is my belief that you will continue to contribute your quota to the development of the State. This is no time to relent on your hard work but rather a time for you to come up with new ideas and innovation that will add value to our State in the way and manner government policies are implemented for the greater benefit and service of our people.

“I charge all of you to rededicate yourselves to the tenets of the public service reforms we have embarked on and prove to the rest of the service your justification for the new elevation,” the Governor said.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, Ibirogba thanked Governor Ambode for the opportunity given to them to serve the State, assuring that they would hit the ground running to uphold the vision and mission statements of their respective MDAs and also ensure that result-oriented policies are delivered.

Exclusive:Encourage MSMEs Through Low Interest Loans - Bountiful Charges

Popular Agege's golden daughter, Mrs. Busayo Taiwo Adelanwa a. k. a Bountiful is in the news. This time it's not about community works with Elephant Club of Ogba or philanthropic engagement with Rotary Club, rather, it is an exquisite exhibition of her prowess in the business and financial sector.

She stressed that it's obvious that capital is the opium of any business but MSMEs suffer a lot because of their inability to service humongous credit facilities often offered by financial institutions.

Mrs Adelanwa who is the Convener of Bountiful Foundation, a business consultant and social worker while responding to questions on a TV programme (AM Chat of MITV) themed: Doing successful business in an unpredictable economy like Nigeria, she said it's high time financial institutions began to encourage Small and Medium Scale Enterprises with little interest soft loans if the country truly wants to build a self reliant economy.

Bountiful Highighted some areas which young  entrepreneurs need to envision before dabbling into any venture. she said they need to identifying a need, study the need to understand it (through feasibility studies, business ideation, business concept development, business planning, skill acquisition, internship and apprenticeship, market analysis, industry analysis), then feed the need sustainably and excellently (i.e product or services).

"In case of capital challenges, seek support from friends, families and folks. When you exhaust your lower hanging fruits, seek partnership, equity investors, angel investors, loan, grant." She asserted.

The social worker advised prospective businessman to make contractual agreements they can achieve,  "all agreement must be  win-win and keep all contractual agreement intact."

Thereafter, Bountiful urged government to ensure creating an enabling environment for business to flourish saying that "Chinese or Lebanese investors come into Nigeria with only a brief case and cart away money in containers. The briefcase on arrival is a cheque of international loan at a very low interest rate with longer moratorium yet he gets tax holidays here which indigenous investors may not get."
