Lagos trains health workers to manage deadly viral infections

The Lagos State Government in collaboration with Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust recently trained health workers in public secondary facilities on the management of deadly Viral Haemorrhagic Fevers (VHFs) with a view to increasing their capacity to identify and promptly manage patients during an outbreak of infectious diseases.

Speaking at the training, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, noted that Lagos, with rapid urbanization and a population of over 22 million people, stands at high risk of an outbreak of infectious diseases.

“These diseases are mostly deadly Viral Haemorrhagic Fevers which include, Ebola, Lassa fever, Yellow fever, and Dengue. These deadly viruses cause sporadic outbreaks all over the country and the goal of the training is to build capacity in identifying and containing them in a mega city like ours” he said.

Idris who was represented by the Director Disease Control in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Eniola Erinosho stated that Medical Directors of General Hospitals have been mandated to designate a ward as Isolation Unit to quarantine suspected cases, stressing that this was done to increase the level of preparedness in the management VHF.

“The Ministry of Health in collaboration with DRASA Health Trust through this training seeks to increase the State’s level of outbreak preparedness, build the capacity of health workers to identify, diagnose and manage cases without jeopardizing their safety and that of residents”, Idris stressed.

The Commissioner added that State Government as part of efforts to enhance emergency preparedness has put in place an Inter-Ministerial Committee on Emergency Preparedness and Response, Disease Surveillance, Notification and Response structures in all the 20 local government areas of the State, and the Infectious Disease Control Hospital - Mainland Hospital Yaba.

He also stated that other emergency facilities available in the State include Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS), Lagos State Emergency Medical Services (LASEMS), State Environmental Health Monitoring Units (SEHMU), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and Lagos State Waste Management Authority.

Idris noted that enactment of Lagos State Public Health Law and the Lagos State Coronary Law supports emergency preparedness and response, adding that there is an Emergency Call Centre in the State which responds to emergency calls on dedicated lines: 767 and 211.

While commending DRASA Health Trust for collaborating with the Ministry of Health to train health workers on the management of emerging infectious diseases, the Commissioner assured the organization of the State government’s commitment and support in establishing a Simulation Training Centre on Emergency Preparedness and Response for Emerging Infectious Disease at the Lagos Mainland Hospital, Yaba.

Earlier, the Managing Director of DRASA Health Trust, Ms. Niniola Soleye explained that the training covers multiple topics including identification and triage of suspected VHF patients, application of standard precautions, and usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) before and after dealing with a suspected case.

“This is not a typical lecture or presentation type of training. We are using simulation and scenarios to make it hands-on and to ensure that the doctors and nurses we are training actually go through the process. So that when they are faced with a real live infectious patient as Dr. Adadevoh was with the first Ebola patient in 2014, they will know what to do. That is our goal” she said.

DRASA Health Trust was established in memory of Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, the doctor who correctly diagnosed and contained the first case of Ebola in Nigeria. No fewer than 50 Health workers from various general hospitals and primary health care centres in the State were in attendance.

Ambode canvasses patronage of made in NIgeria products for MSME growth

AgegePulse Magazine

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has underscored the need to increase patronage of locally made products and also expand the capacity of Micro, Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the State, assuring that his administration will continue to pay greater attention to the sector.

The Governor who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Dr. Olajide Bashorun, made this known during the Lagos Small Business Summit held at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, Lagos.

He described the theme of the summit "Creating exponential institutions: how government and small businesses can keep up with the market" as very apt considering the need for effective partnership between government institutions and the organized stakeholders in Small and Medium Enterprises, SMEs.

Governor Ambode explained that the summit throws a challenge to all players, both public and private, to look inwards and develop the internal and external capacities of other sectors for steady growth and global competitiveness.

While making case for the informal sector, Ambode said "we must significantly reduce our taste for foreign-made goods because it is detrimental to the survival and growth of SMEs and their capacity to create wealth and generate employment for our teeming unemployed youths.

He listed several incentives provided to operators of SMEs under the present administration, saying that tradesmen and artisans in different vocations recently completed a training programme organized by the State Government to further enhance their capacity.

"During the celebration of the 2017 Day for artisans and tradesmen few weeks back, I directed the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the State Government to henceforth, accord greater recognition to members of the informal sector in terms of increasing patronage for the products of SMEs in line with the State's 'Buy Made in Nigeria Campaign' ‘’the Governor stated.

He added that the State government had also resolved to engage the services of small and medium scale artisans in the execution of government contracts.

According to him, the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment was established by the current administration to implement policies aimed at enhancing the capacity of SMEs to harness their contribution to economic growth and development.

He also said that the Employment Trust Fund was set up to address the challenge of lack of access to funding, stressing that the responses from applicants of the initiative show that young people are willing to take advantage of opportunities when given.

"As we speak, over N3.5billion Naira has been disbursed to over 6,000 beneficiaries who are at different stages of executing their businesses plan” he stated.

He assured participants at the summit that government will continue to promote opportunities for MSMEs to thrive by focusing on the development of infrastructure and its processes to improve and enhance the competitiveness and productivity of MSMEs in the State.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman, Planning Committee of the 2017 SME 100 Nigeria, Lagos Small Business Summit, Mr. Tope Adekoya commended the Governor for prioritizing the development of small businesses and for his willingness to help these businesses thrive.

He explained that the idea of bringing all relevant stakeholders together at the Summit is basically to foster discussions on how to build a more successful, industrious and entrepreneurial State.

Ambode assures Lagosians of equity, justice for all

 AgegePulse Magazine

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has assured residents of the State that his administration will not relent in delivering dividends of democracy to its citizenry by fast-tracking the process of justice delivery and ensuring equal protection of individuals’ rights.

Governor Ambode made this known at the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme organized by Federal Justice Sector Reform Coordinating Committee (FJSRCC) in collaboration with Lagos State Government, European Union and British Council at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja.

Ambode, who was represented by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem said reforms in the judicial sector across the globe rely on the creation and implementation of sound policies by the concerned government, noting that all will be done to that ensure justice works for all in Lagos.

While making reference to the recently established DNA and Forensic Centre in the State, the Governor assured members of the legal profession and residents of the State that his administration will further put in place machinery that will aid investigation of criminal cases.

“We are committed to a quick dispensation of justice for all because we believe that this will bring about the much-needed change across all other sectors for the benefit of all residents in the State”, he said.

He said that the government will continue to explore other opportunities through partnership with organisations to promote judicial reforms, while also focusing more on improving the welfare of the judiciary.

Also speaking, the Solicitor General/Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr. Dayo Apata commended Governor Ambode for leading the cause of judicial reform in Nigeria and urged other States to emulate Lagos State.

He said the programme aimed at appraising justice and judicial reforms is also a platform to communicate the need for judicial reform in all States of the country for robust awareness and acceptance of the National Reform Policy.

Apata tasked representatives of all States at the programme to lead the implementation of the policy in their States to help the President Muhammadu Buhari administration achieve fair justice delivery in the fight against corruption.

Patronize Govt healthcare facilities, Mrs. Ambode charges expectant mothers

AgegePulse Magazine

Wife of the Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, has renewed her call on expectant mothers to patronize primary health centres and skilled birth attendants in the State, to reduce the incidence of maternal and infant mortality.

She gave the advice today at a town hall meeting on the reduction of maternal and child mortality organized by Lagos State Ministry of Health at Epe Local Government.

Mrs. Ambode blamed prevailing maternal mortality rate on the failure of expectant mothers to access obstetric services provided by the government.

“Almost every minute, somewhere in a corner of the world, a woman dies as a result of complications during pregnancy and childbirth. For every woman that dies, about 20 others survive but suffer from serious diseases, disability or physical damage, caused by complications. Majority of these maternal deaths are avoidable if expectant mothers access quality reproductive health care, including skilled attendance at birth,” she said.

“Non-use of essential obstetric services is a crucial factor that contributes to high maternal mortality. Some women refuse to access care when highly necessary either because of cultural practices or because decision-making is the responsibility of other family members”, she added.

Mrs. Ambode stressed that while the role of Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) is acknowledged, it is important they know their limitations and ensure prompt referrals to Primary Health Care Centres.

She appealed to women of child-bearing age and pregnant women to avail themselves of the free services during the Child Health Week, taking place throughout this week, by visiting the nearest Primary Health facility closest to them.

The Governor’s wife, who urged women to pay attention to their nutrition during pregnancy, enlisted the support of families, religious and community groups to win the battle against the menace of infant and maternal mortality.

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, noted that it was important for TBAs to register with the State Government, adding that reports indicated that expectant mothers still patronize those TBAs that are not trained to handle unforeseen complications during pregnancy or childbirth.

The Commissioner said that the State Government had done so much in the area of primary health-care, as the Governor was very passionate about the health of the citizenry.

He enjoined everyone to come together at the end of the town hall meeting and resolve to do the right thing and save the lives of mothers during pregnancy and babies after childbirth, stressing that everyone has a role to play in this regard.

Delivering their goodwill messages, a member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Epe Federal Constituency, Hon. Tasir Raji and Chairman, House Committee on Health in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Segun Olulade, both noted that there was a strong link between the health and survival of a mother and that of her new-born.

Raji said it was imperative for the State Government to explore the possibility of registering the TBAs with a view to integrating them into the healthcare delivery system, as this according to him, would help build capacity to ease the burden in the health sector.

Olulade stressed that concerted efforts must be made to ensure that no woman in Lagos State loses her life during pregnancy or childbirth.

In attendance were top government functionaries, traditional rulers, the health family, Traditional Birth Attendants, and other stakeholders.

Christian pilgrims urged to be good ambassadors

The Lagos State Government has urged intending Christian pilgrims to Jerusalem and Rome to shun all vices capable of bringing disrepute to the image of the State and Nigeria while in the Holy Land.

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Home Affairs, Mrs. Toyin Awoseyi gave the advice during the Y2017 Dedication Service for Intending Pilgrims to Jerusalem and Rome themed "Proclaiming Christ By Serving The Nation", held at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa Ikeja, Lagos.

Awoseyi counselled the pilgrims to pray for the sustenance of peace and unity in the country, portray the image of Lagos State positively and resolve to be good ambassadors of the State and the country at large.

While praying for journey mercies for the pilgrims, Awoseyi advised them to embark on the pilgrimage with the intention of achieving spiritual rebirth by focusing on the spiritual aspect of the exercise.

The Permanent Secretary added that the only way the intending pilgrims could have powerful and life-changing testimonies after the pilgrimage is by making adequate preparations before embarking on the journey, stressing that holy pilgrimage started from the day the decision to embark on the journey was conceived.

The Acting Presiding Chaplain of the Chapel, Very Reverend Ayo Olu Oyadotun, in his sermon, stressed the need for the intending pilgrims to have truthful intention as they embark on the journey with the objective of experiencing a genuine encounter with God.

Reverend Oyadotun further advised the pilgrims to be mindful of their conduct while on the pilgrimage and desist from all acts that could make their journey to Jerusalem and Rome a wasted effort.

”You should have a genuine concern for God and make the decision to become better persons and citizens after the whole pilgrimage exercise,” he said.

The Board Secretary of the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mrs. Yetunde Gbafe, counselled the intending pilgrims on the appropriate diet, the kind of clothing suitable for the journey and the expected general conduct before, during and after the Holy pilgrimage.

She highlighted other necessary details relating to feeding, sight visit in Jerusalem and Rome as well as the history and culture of the people.

As the Football Clinic organised by Asisat Oshoala Foundation continues to attract commendation across the state, the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary of Lagos Education District One, Agege, Dr. Yinka Ayandele has praised the initiative as an invaluable platform for female students with abundant football talent.

Dr Ayandele who is an advocate of talent discovery and tapping of creativity deposited in students alongside Western education, said the football clinic is an indication that the reigning Female African Footballer of the year, Asisat Oshoala is planning for the future of the round leather game in Nigeria.

She stressed that apart from discovering new markswomen like herself, the Super Falcons goal poacher is also giving hope and reassurance to an average girl child that if their talent is effectively nurtured, they could make a respectable living from football. Hence, deter them from social vices in the society.

"We are grateful to Super Falcons star, Asisat Oshoala who through her Football Clinic, is looking into the future and building an empire of young girls who will keep flying the flag when she bows out of active service for the nation.

"Indeed, the Asisat Oshoala Foundation Football Clinic final held inside Agege Stadium yesterday, has given impetus to our female students who see Asisat as a worthy role model to achieve their soccer ambition." Dr Ayandele said.

Also, the award winning educationist used the medium to felicitate with the First Lady of Lagos State, Her Excellency, Mrs Bolanle Ambode and the Chairman of Agege LGA, Mr Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi who were recognised for their unflinching supports towards grassroot sports development by the foundation.

The statement read: “Ekwueme family regrets to announce the peaceful passing away of their patriarch, the former Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme GCON.

Lagos seals 18 hotels, event centres over N91m tax evasion

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has shut 13 hotels, restaurants and event centers for failure to pay their taxes due under the Hotel Occupancy and Restaurant Consumption Laws of Lagos State 2009.

The Hotels and Restaurants were said to be owing the State a sum of N426,976,528.87

The Director Legal Services of the LIRS, Mr. Seyi Alade, on Friday 17 November 2017 during the state-wide tax enforcement exercise, warned that defaulting Hotels, Restaurants and Event Centers will henceforth face the full wrath of the law if they fail to deduct and remit their taxes as provided by the law. He promised to release in due course the names of the entities affected by the enforcement exercise.

According to him, failure to deduct and remit taxes as at when due attracts very serious penalties that may lead to the sealing, seizure of the goods and chattels and criminal prosecution of principal officers of recalcitrant entities.

He said the LIRS usually gives a long rope by issuing multiple notices to the taxpayers to inform and also remind them of their tax liabilities adding that only recalcitrant taxpayers are shut down as in the present case.

He therefore urged all business entities operating in the state to ensure prompt remittance of their taxes to avoid costly disruptions on their businesses as a result of a distrain exercise.

Egunjobi gave the charge after receiving an award from the organiser of Asisat Oshoala Foundation and Lagos State Secondary School Girls Football Clinic for his contribution to the clinic at Agege Stadium.

Recall Moses was nominated alongside Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Guinean Naby Keita, Senegalese Sadio Mane and his Liverpool teammate, Mohammed Salah of Egypt.

In a statement signed by Egunjobi’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr Rotimi Sulyman, the chairman was quoted as saying the winners of the BBC African Footballer Award were determined by public voting.

The football loving Chairman however, urged the people of Agege who are known for having special love of the round leather game to overwhelmingly append their votes for Moses to ensure overwhelming victory for the Nigerian.

The statement reads in pairs: “May I use this medium to call on all residents of Agege to go on the internet, and vote en masse for Victor Moses, who has been nominated for BBC African Footballer of the Year, 2017.

“On Nov, 23 and Nov. 24, I will be offering free wifi access to all visitors and workers of Agege Local Government at the Council while mobilising them to vote for Moses.

“Voting for the award will close at 1800 GMT on Nov. 27 while the winner will be announced on Monday Dec. 11, live on BBC World TV and BBC World Service Radio,” said Egunjobi.

Apapa gridlock: Lagos reconstitutes Joint Security Task Force to ensure sanity

…Orders Police, other Security Agencies to strictly enforce Traffic Law, okada ban

…Restates ban on industrial fireworks, assures residents of peaceful yuletide celebration

The Lagos State Government has reconstituted the Joint Security Task Force established to tackle Apapa gridlock and other security threats within the axis brought about by the blockade of major roads in the area by tankers and containerized trucks.

The Apapa gridlock, in the past few weeks, had worsened due to breakdown of operations at the ports located in the axis.

Rising from the monthly Security Council meeting held at the Lagos House in Ikeja chaired by the State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode and attended by heads of security formations in the State, the State Government said the Task Force comprising of police, military, officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) would immediately be deployed to the axis to ensure sanity and contain any potential security threat.

While briefing Government House Correspondents at the end of the meeting, the State’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal said while the issues that gave rise to the gridlock were being addressed, the Task Force would ensure that the roads in the axis were not totally locked down, and also prevent criminal elements from taking advantage of the gridlock to perpetrate their nefarious activities.

Edgal, who addressed the briefing alongside commanders of security formations in the State, said: “We deliberated extensively on the Apapa gridlock and the Governor has approved with immediate effect the reconstitution of a Joint Task Force made up of police, the military, LASTMA and FRSC officials to ensure that whilst the major problems that gave rise to that situation in the first instance are being tackled, we on our part as security agencies, will ensure that we have a good semblance of decency on our roads.

“We will ensure that we create a corridor for smaller vehicles and ensure that there is no complete blockade to free flow of traffic. We will also have plain cloth and uniformed security agencies ensuring that there is no crime in the axis due to the traffic gridlock.”

The CP, who assured residents that every necessary arrangement had been made to ensure peaceful yuletide season, said the Council also approved increased visibility and patrol in all parts of the State, especially in areas there are traffic gridlock as a result of construction activities.

Already, Edgal said due to increased patrol, about 35 notorious traffic robbers were recently arrested in Ilupeju and Oshodi axis, many of whom he said are ex-convicts and would soon be charged to court at the end of investigation.

He added that as a result of the community policing and community safety partnership strategy adopted by the Lagos Police Command, there had been about 35 per cent drop in issues of residential robberies, while more boats had been handed over to Marine Police by the State Government to secure the waterways and riverine areas especially to checkmate incursions by militants and secure schools in such areas, in addition to the Tactic Guards already formed.

Speaking on ongoing clampdown on commercial motorcycles popularly known as Okada on restricted routes, Edgal said security agencies in the State have been given marching orders to strictly enforce the traffic law, and that no lawlessly or breakdown of law and order would be condoned.

He particularly admonished motorists and transport unions to impress it on their members to obey traffic laws, just as he said Okada riders must not only refrain from restricted routes, but also use helmets both for rider and passenger and not carry more than one person at a time, among other rules of engagement.

“We have the Lagos State Traffic Law and it is our responsibility to enforce the law. Motorists, motorcyclists and other form of road users must obey the law. Our men have been mandated to enforce all aspects of the law not only prohibition along some routes but also those aspects that have to do with safety. We don’t want officers and men to be challenged unduly when they are enforcing the law and I want to use this opportunity to call on the unions, especially the Okada unions to call their members to cooperate with the police. They should not form themselves into pressure and riotous groups to challenge the police and other security agencies,” Edgal said.

He said aside the security measures already put in place for residents and visitors to experience a peaceful yuletide season, any resident who sell, distribute or use industrial fireworks would be arrested and charged to court, saying that the ban on such is still very much in force.

Besides, Edgal thanked Lagosians for their cooperation with security agencies so far and urged people to continue to volunteer useful information that would help arrest potential security threat.

Nnamdi Kanu Allegedly Disappeared With IPOB's £14M, $22M

The international media arm of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Radio Biafra, has resumed operations.

But instead of the fiery rhetoric with which it was associated with, the radio announced the sack of Nnamdi Kanu, as director and leader of IPOB.

According to Okorafor, one “Mazi Ezenwachukwu Sampson Okwudili is Kanu’s replacement.”

She reeled out reasons why Kanu was removed to include: “Personalisation of the Biafran struggle and derailing from the core objectives of IPOB as a grassroots movement.

“Kanu’s actions and his decisions to incite members of IPOB towards violence leading to the death of many innocent young people in Onitsha, Aba and Umuahia is totally unacceptable and grossly irresponsible.

“Kanu privately collected £14 million and another $22 million to purchase landed properties abroad in his name and that of his father, Igwe Israel Kanu, in a clear case of ‘monkey dey work baboon dey chop’.

“Kanu turned our collective struggle into a money-making enterprise for himself and his father. Thus the monies contributed by enterprising and hard-working Igbo youths across the world are being collected and converted by one man and his father while pretending to be sacrificing for the cause.

Lagos to ease the process of doing business - Ambode

...Lagos International Trade Fair, the biggest fair in Nigeria, Mrs. Nike Akande

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Sunday assured residents that the State Government would continue its support for the business community through policies that will ease the process of doing business across the metropolis.

The Governor, who gave the assurance through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tunji Bello at the closing ceremony of the 2017 Lagos International trade fair held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, added that it is a necessary condition for the achievement of its goals to become the Third Largest Economy in Africa by 2020 and Africa’s Model Mega City by 2025.

He stressed that the State Government's policy objectives on job/wealth creation as well as improved productivity is predicated on its ability to create and sustain a conducive business environment that will attract more private sector investments particularly in the critical and largely untapped sectors of the state's economy.

"Towards this end, we shall sustain the existing robust partnership with the private sector in the area of evolving sound policies that will stand the test of time and provide the roadmap in our journey to economic prosperity", he reiterated.

The Governor said the essence of Trade Fair is basically to provide a platform for players\manufacturers in the real sector to network and showcase their products to the general public in one location.

He averred that new products are introduced while consumers are given the opportunity to meet one on one with manufacturers of their favourite products without traveling long distances with its associated costs.

Ambode hinted that the present administration is proud to support and identify with the annual event which has continued to consolidate the status of the State as the melting point of trade and economic activities in the West Africa sub-region.

Earlier in her remarks, the President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Mrs. Nike Akande expressed appreciation to the State Government for transforming the State positively, adding that the state can now compete with great cities across the world.

She said LCCI in the last 30 years has consistently hosted the Lagos International Trade Fair, the biggest fair in Nigeria in order to respond to yearnings of the business world and Nigerians, noting that that the fair has attracted manufacturers locally, from China, Pakistan and India, among others.

LASG tasks staff on sound policy formulation, implementation

Lagos State Government has tasked its workforce to come up with suggestions on how to formulate and execute government policies that would address challenges confronting majority of the populace.

The State Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr. Akintola Benson-Oke gave the charge today at the opening session of a workshop tagged: Policy Analysis Development and Implementation, organised by the State Government for Policy Analysts in Lagos Public Service at Ikeja.

He maintained that those involved in government policy process need to possess strong analytical skills and ability to apply a variety of research and evaluation methods within a complex political and economic environment.

The Commissioner said that the training will review the analytical approaches that are essential for effective policy development in modern times.

The training will cover the nature and role of policy analysts and the interaction among social institutions, markets and government. It will examine how to conduct effective policy analysis, manage the policy development process, and produce sound and persuasive policy reports and recommendation to the government, he said.

He informed that policy-making and implementation functions in governance are important because governments are repeatedly confronted with problems that call for apt and appropriate solutions.

Benson-Oke added that challenges of governance in recent time have taken complex features and as such a government of metropolitan state like Lagos must have a pool of skilled, trained and current policy analysts and developers who will assist the government in designing the right, appropriate and sustainable answers to complex and urgent problems.

The Commissioner said that the present administration is taking up challenges to aspire to the highest standards of governance and administration that the citizens expect of the government.

He maintained that all the achievements of the Ambode-led administration since inception is hinged on the quality of reforms and policies enunciated by the government policy makers, adding that there is little or nothing that could be achieved by any government without a robust policy-making process.

He, therefore, urged participants to embrace the capacity development initiative and open their minds to new ideas that might emanate in the course of the training.

I exhort public policy analysts and developers in the Lagos State Public Service to learn to focus quickly on the central decision criterion of a problem requiring attention, avoid the Tool-box Approach to analysing policies and also learn how to deal with uncertainty, Benson-Oke reiterated.

In an interview with Dele Momodu, celebrity journalist, the immediate past president said he is moved to tears seeing people shouting “GEJ, we want you back.

Jonathan, who ruled out the possibility of returning to office, said reflections on his achievements and mistakes make him sober.

I’m not God but I sincerely doubt the possibility, Jonathan was quoted to have said in response to a question on the next election.

People come to me every day saying they want me back. I’m always moved to tears whenever I go out and see the huge crowds shouting GEJ, we want you, even in the north.

Instead of getting swollen headed, I actually reflect on my achievements and mistakes and feel humbled and feel very sober…

I have never been a man of inordinate ambition. I’m a man of very modest means. I hardly travel because of the logistical costs. I’ve played my part and I have moved on.

Asked what he would do if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gives him its presidential ticket in 2019, he said: Are you not aware that our party has zoned the presidency to the north, and the chairmanship to the south?

Even Fayose that has declared his interest may face big challenges because of the decision of our party.
