President Bola Tinubu has appointed former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and Senator Dave Umahi as the Minister of Works.

This is just as the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs appears to have been scrapped as it was not on the ministerial list, while there is no one for now as the senior Minister of Petroleum.

The list was announced to journalists by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelae.

According to the list, Mr. Wale Edun is the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, while Bunmi Tunji is the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy is Bosun Tuani; Ishak Salaco, Minister of State, Environment and Ecological Management,

The Minister of Power is Adedayo Adelabu; Minister of State, Health and Social Welfare, Tunisia Alausa; Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake; Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John, and Minister of Transportation, Adegboyega Oyetola.

Other portfolios are Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Doris Anite; Minister of Innovation Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji; Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejeocha; Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy, and Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

The Minister of Youth is Abubakar Momoh; Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu; Minister of State, Gas Resources, Ekperikpe Ekpo; Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, while Senator John Enoh is the Minister of Sports Development.

Going by the portfolios, the Northwest has 10 ministers, five senior and five ministers of state; North Central has six senior ministers out of nine ministerial positions.

The Southwest has seven senior ministers and two ministers of state. The Northeast has six senior ministers and one minister state, but no person yet for Kaduna state, which is expected to occupy the Environment and Ecological Management Ministry.

The South-South has five senior ministers and two ministers of state, while the Southeast has four senior ministers and one minister of state.

The ministerial retreat may likely take place next week, likewise the swearing-in of the ministers, which may take place before the retreat.

Agege Community Media Practitioners

The Executive Chairman of Orile Agege Local Council Development Area, Hon. Johnson Babatunde Sunday has charged Agege Community Media Practitioners Association (AGCMAP) to monitor the proposed sale of subsidized food items to the residents.

Babatunde made the call while meeting with the Journalists at the LCDA’s Secretariat.

He noted that the idea of engaging media practitioners is for transparency and credible reportage.

The Council boss stated that the concept of subsidizing food items is aimed at bringing succour to the residents during this harsh economy after removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government.

Babatunde further stated that the beneficiaries from over 10,000 households will have the privilege to buy each food item at 50-60 percent discount rate.

The food items include Rice, Beans, Yam and Garri.

The Chairman later disclosed that over 60 locations have been mapped out for the simultaneous exercise.

Meanwhile, Hon Johnson Babatunde commended the Media Practitioners for their effective ways of disseminating information across all six wards of the local government.

While speaking, the Chairman, Agege Community Media Practitioners, Mr Oloyede Sunday Kolawole appreciated the Council boss on-behalf of his members for engaging the community Media Practitioners to serve as watchdogs during the sales of the subsidized food items to residents.

General Overseer of Agape Evangelical Ministries (City of Miracles) Located in Obikabia Junction Aba, Abia State has been arrested by the Police after a married female Evangelist and mother of five identified as “Evangelist Happiness”who lodged in with him at Jubilee Guest House Ovom, Ogborhill was found dead in the hotel room.

According to PUO, the incident happened around 11pm on Saturday 12th August 2023 after the Bishop who booked the room with her absconded after deceiving the receptionist that he was going to buy food at that time of the night.

The manager of the Hotel who suspected foul play immediately reported to the Eastern Ngwa Police Station in Obingwa Local Government Area around around 1am on Sunday morning.

When officers of the Nigerian Police went to the hotel, the woman was lying naked with foam coming out of her mouth and nose.

PUO Reports gathered that when her Phone was opened, it was discovered that the woman and mother of Five Children is a member of the Agape Evangelical Ministeries Incorporated founded by Bishop Timothy Otu and they have been having romantic relationship and discussion via text messages which were seen by the Police.

Investigations revealed that the woman died during the marathon s@x with the Bishop.

The Police Officers traced the Bishop to his Church at Obikabia Junction, attended his Sunday Service with mofty, Bishop Timothy Otu who was heavily preaching about repentance was arrested immediately after his sermon and currently being detained at the Eastern Ngwa Police Station Obingwa.

The late Evangelist Happiness who is a mother of Five hails from Umuatakawom in Obingwa while her husband was at work in Bayelsa State when the ugly incident happened.

Subsidy Removal: Hon. JS Babatunde To Subsidize Food Items with 50% In Orile Agege ...Opens Over 65 Locations for easy access

 Following the recent Federal Government removal of subsidy on PMS that had brought about hardship in the land, the Executive Chairman of Orile Agege Local Council Development Area, Hon. Johnson Babatunde  has announced that his government has announced over 65  locations across the LCDA where residents can access cheap price of food items.

Babatunde stated that the locations are targeted to capture over 53 CDAs, 6 Political wards, civil servants, artisans and others in the community.

He revealed this recently while meeting with the Community Development Community in Orile Agege LCDA and other Stakeholders at the council secretariat.

AgegePulse learnt that the idea is to bring succour to the residents at this period of fuel subsidy removal and the effect in the land.

"The open market will be a subsided food items  include, Rice, Beans, Yam and Garri  for over 10,000 households for months starting in the coming days." 

"We are giving out all those food items at the discounted rate of 50% to 60% in all markets". Hon. J S Babatunde concluded.

Agege LG council embark on asphaltic patching of roads potholes in the council area

The Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government, High Chief (Alh) Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi directed the council's works department to embark of roads within the council area.

The council, Engr, L.K Akande, in a chat with some media outfits correspondents, hinted that the council chairman, Egunjobi, directed the works to embark on the asphaltic patching as road palliative measures for motorists and residents. 

 He added that roads embarked upon were; Sebiotimo, Abeokuta, Oshitelu and Obaremo streets within the council area; noting that  other streets that requires palliative measures would also be attended to.

Take Isese Festival Elsewhere, Police Warns Yoruba Traditionalist In Kwara

The Kwara State Police Command has urged the worshipers of the indigenous traditional religion otherwise known as Isese to relocate the festival planned for celebration on August 20, 2023, in Kwara state to other areas of the country saying that the security situation in the state is not favourable for such celebration.

The Command in a statement issued on Monday evening and signed by SP Okasanmi Ajayi, Police Public Relations Officer said that the Command has met with the worshipers and had advised them to find a suitable place in another state in the country for the celebration.

The statement reads, “Vigilante, local hunters, community policing members, and the leadership of the traditional worshippers in Kwara, along with some of their leaders from adjoining states, have also been dialogued with and made to understand that the intelligence available to the Police Command does not favor the kind of celebrations being planned by one of the religious sects in the state; they have been advised to relocate their celebration to another state pending a favorable security situation in the state.”

The Command said that it has planned to implement a new strategy to ensure harmonious living among the people and put criminal activities at bay in all areas of the state adding that a 24-hour stop and search would be conducted by the Police on people and vehicles in the state.

“In continuation of the Kwara State Police Command’s onerous effort to ensure a safe and secure State for the good people of Kwara, the Commissioner of Police Kwara State Command, CP. Lagos Govt Charges Community Media Practitioners To Be Objective In News Reporting

The Public Affairs Unit of the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs in Lagos State on Thursday, charged community media practitioners in the State on the need to be objective and factual in their news reporting at their various communities.

The Government stated this at an interactive session which was organised for Community Media Practitioners across the 57 Local Government/ Local Council Development Areas of the state and which took place at the Conference Room, T-Block of the Ministry in the Secretariat at Alausa – Ikeja, Lagos.

Addressing the participants at the event, the  Assistant Director, Public Affairs Unit of the Ministry, Mr Kehinde Adebayo, said the event was in line with Sanwo-Olu’s agenda of bringing governance closer to the people and to strengthen as well as to strengthened the relationship between the Government and the grassroots through the Community Media across the State.

He said it is also to ensure that there is effective and efficient information dissemination to the grassroots in the State.

“This interactive session would not have held without the gracious approval of Mr Governor; Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, who sees the pivotal role that Community Media Practitioners play in disseminating information at the grassroots; hence my deepest gratitude to Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his approval of this interactive session.

“Surely, he is a man driven by purpose and concern for the grassroots. Having seen ahead of time the damage false information and repertoire can do to the image of the State, thus the need to tell our stories ourselves rather than have someone do it for us.

He seized the occasion to remind the Ministry of APCOM’s upcoming event, tagged, “Community Media Summit ” billed for August 15, 2023, in Ikeja, Lagos where he said the practitioners will converge to socialise, network and learn new ideas about their profession.

He reiterated the decision of the practitioners to partner with Governor Sanwo-Olu in information dissemination.

“We have decided to partner with you to organise a Community Media summit in order to ignite our members.

Court Jails Two Ogun Politicians For Illegal Possession Of Firearms

A magistrates’ court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, has sentenced two politicians in Ogun State, Adewale Ogundele and Ibrahim Amoje, to one year’s imprisonment without any option of fine.

The police had arrested the two convicts on October 16, 2021 at the venue of the state congress of the All Progressives Congress held at the Ake Palace ground for being in possession of illegal weapons.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs O. O. Adebo in her judgment said the court found the two politicians guilty of illegally possessing firearms.

Adebo noted that she was satisfied with evidence before her and sentenced the duo to one year’s imprisonment without any option of fine.

She held, “Those two were charged with unlawful possession of firearms. We had three witnesses and at the end of the day, they were found guilty of having in their possession firearms without licence. Accordingly, they were sentenced and sent to one year imprisonment without any option of fine.

The Ondo State Government has taken measures to protect residents in the state amid soaring costs and incessant increases in prices of goods and services by artisans including farm produce and food items.

 

In this regard, the state government has barred all Trading Unions and Associations under the umbrella of Ondo State United Artisan Group, from fixing and enforcing uniform prices of goods and services being sold/rendered by their members and non-members.

 

A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo said the decision was taken in the overall socio-economic interest of the people of the State. 

 

The statement:

 

"Government had before now, watched with discomfort and dismay, the economic suffocation of the people with unimaginable increases in prices of goods and services in markets, shops and other sales outlets across the state.

 

"Even without due regard for market forces, it is obvious that associations and unions are largely behind this unwholesome act. 

 

"The state government has decided to act decisively even as the public deserves protection from this undesirable exploitation under some guises. 

 

"Therefore, fixing market prices and imposing fixed exorbitant prices on the people under the guise of association or union must be stopped forthwith.

 

"Accordingly, as part of the measures, Individuals, Artisans, Traders and providers of services as well as farmers are henceforth allowed to operate, sell their produce and render any service in any part of the state as they may deem profitable, based on the principle of demand and supply and prevailing market forces. This is just as membership of associations and unions remains voluntary as provided for in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.

 

"Consequently, Government's right to regulate the activities of Trading Associations and Artisan groups has to be invoked in the interest of residents. Therefore, on no account should any Union/Association fix or enforce prices of goods and services. 

 

"Similarly, there shall be no sale of tickets to Artisans/Traders by any Association/Union without due approval of the state Government through the Internal Revenue Service”.

"All concerned are, therefore, advised to adhere strictly to this directive as any person or group found to be flouting it will be made to face the full weight of the extant laws. 

"It is to be noted too that this directive takes effect from TODAY in all markets and sales outlets across the 18 LGAs of the state".

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday passed the State's Value Added Tax (VAT) with Speaker Mudashiru Obasa directing the Acting Clerk of the House, Mr. Olalekan Onafeko, to transmit a clean copy to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for assent.

The House also passed the bill that prohibits open cattle grazing in the state.

The two bills were passed after unanimous votes by the lawmakers at the sitting where they were read the third time.

Immediately after their passage, Speaker Obasa commended his colleagues for their passion to see that the state continues to grow.

"I thank you all for this historic exercise," Obasa said.

Recall that the House held separate public hearings on the bills on Wednesday with stakeholders expressing support.

Governor Hope Uzodinma had earlier stated that the President is in the state to commission some projects through a Facebook post.

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) has warned that the price of a cow could go up as high as N2 million if the Lagos State Government passes the proposed anti-open grazing law.

The association’s zonal secretary for South-West, Maikudi Usman, made the disclosure on Wednesday during a one-day public hearing organised by the state House of Assembly on the anti-open grazing bill.

Mr Usman said ranching, as being proposed by the government, was capital intensive and his members could not afford it.

“If cattle are bred in one place, the price could go up to about two million naira each. W

e agreed with some local chiefs in other states that anyone who wants to rear cows in a location should register and should indicate when he is leaving,” he disclosed.

The Miyetti Allah leader added that the best way to breed cattle was to move them from one place to another, saying that they were moved to different places during the rainy and dry season.

“Our breeders are not used to breeding cattle in one place.

They move from here to another place.

 When we say we will keep cattle in one place, the owner of the cattle will not have funds to feed the animals in one place.

Making further excuses, Mr Usman pleaded with the government for more time to enlighten herdsmen on breeding cattle in one place rather than encroaching on farmlands.

“We are pleading with the Lagos State government to give us more time to go tell our people and train them how they will be breeding cattle in one place and not encroach on farmers’ land,” he said.

Mr Usman further urged the state government to subsidise the cost of raising the animals in one location.

He detached his group from criminal herdsmen that have been destroying people’s farm among other criminal activities such as armed robbery and kidnapping.

“A Fulani man moves from one place to another to ply his trade, but we have some bad eggs that are fomenting trouble.

The government should allow us to tell our people that they don’t want our cows to destroy people’s farmlands,” he pleaded.

“We have met with stakeholders in Ekiti, Ondo and even Oyo States and we reached agreements with them.”

 

In his own remarks the president of the Lagos State Sheep Farmers Association, Mustapha Ibrahim, said that the bill was not meant to attack anybody, but that it was all-embracing.

Mr Ibrahim noted that land resources were very important to the state, adding that the relationship between cattle herders and farmers should be symbiotic.

He also called for legislation to promote the creation of farm estates across the state.

Also, chairman of Lagos State Butchers Association, Alabi Kazeem, urged the assembly to support the cattle breeders as breeding cattle in one location could be expensive.

Many stakeholders at a public hearing held at the Lagos State House of Assembly on Wednesday, agreed that prohibition of open cattle grazing was the best way for the state to ensure security of lives and property.

This was as the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa, said the bill was intended to create an atmosphere that would encourage peaceful co-existence among residents.

Obasa, who was represented by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni, said in his keynote address that it was important to address the issue of cattle rearing, especially as it affects security and other human desires.

The Speaker added that the issues involved with the current ways of cattle rearing and open grazing called for concerted efforts for stability and economic development.

"If there is no security, there will be no peace and development. Farmers/herders clash appears to be the oldest. Both the farmers and herders are critical to food stability.

"Both of them affect our health. Their conflicts lead to insecurity and claim lives and properties. We must engage ourselves to make the right decisions," the Speaker said.

Hon. Kehinde Joseph, chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture, in his remark, said that the proposed law was meant to ensure peace between herders and farmers in the state.

According to Joseph, the proposed law is meant to ensure the registration of herders and prohibition cattle roaming.

"It will forestall herders/farmers clashes and redefine social and economic activities in the state.

"Members of cattle breeders association will be sensitised on the new development and we will ensure strict compliance with the law, when it is passed," he said.

Commenting, the President of the Lagos State Sheep Farmers Association, Alhaji Mustapha Ibrahim, described the bill as all-embracing and would ensure a symbiotic relationship between cattle rearers and farmers.

He also advocated for a legislation to promote the creation of farm estates across the state.

However, in his submission, Zonal Secretary of Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in the South West, Meikudi Usman, appealed to the state government for assistance as he noted that ranching is more expensive than open grazing.

Usman, who agreed that there were some criminally-minded herders, argued that raising a cow in one location could increase the price of a cow to as much as N2 million just as he pleaded with the government to subsidise the cost of raising the cattle in one location.

“We agreed with some local chiefs in other states that anyone who wants to rear cow in a location should register and he should indicate when he is leaving.

"A Fulani man moves from one place to another to play his trade, but we have some bad eggs that are causing trouble. The government should allow us to talk to our people that they don't want our cows to destroy people's farmland.

"We have met with stakeholders in Ekiti, Ondo and even Oyo states and we reached agreements with them," he said.

Chairman of Lagos State Butchers Association of Lagos State, Alhaji Alabi Bamidele Kazeem, also advocated for support to cattle breeders arguing that rearing animals in one location could be expensive.

Bandits terrorising residents of Zamfara and forcing closure of schools have converted some classrooms to personal use in the North West State.

Daily Trust findings show that dozens of primary schools in highly traumatised remote rural communities had been taken over by armed criminals.

The schools were abandoned by the pupils and teachers as a result of the activities of the criminals.

According to residents, the head master of one primary school in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of the state was once confronted by armed men who asked him to close lessons for the day as they intended to sleep in the classrooms.

Without any hesitation and knowing fully the consequences of not carrying out their order, the headmaster immediately closed the school and asked all the pupils to go home.

Daily Trust learnt that scored of armed bandits have been killed in airstrikes after they took shelter in the empty classrooms in the abandoned primary schools across the state.

Apart from this, there were schools affected by a lack of teachers because many had rejected posting to rural schools due to the risk associated with going there to teach.

Alawiye-King added that, the presence of hoodlums around school environment is not only a threat to the pupils and teachers, but also a red flag in the society.

He appreciated the task force for their relentless effort in law enforcement in the state and also pleaded that the unit affiliates with the Board by providing armed officers for monitoring and enforcement whenever the need arises.

CSP. Shola Jejeloye, Chairman Task Force Lagos State promised adequate support in terms of enforcement and also appreciated the Board for the visit to the unit. 

“Exposure of pupils to criminal activities can cause mental imbalance for our children, which is why we have made our decision irreversible in ensuring that anytime the Board calls on us we will answer,” he said.

The Lagos State Government has announced the resumption guidelines for the Y2021/2022 academic session for public and private schools across the State.

In a release issued on Monday by the State Ministry of Education, the Honourable Commissioner, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, stated that all schools are expected to resume on Monday, 13th September 2021, while students of Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools will be required to resume in batches from Sunday 19th September, 2021.

In her words, “Boarders in Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools, as well as SS2 students seeking placement into SS3 class are expected to resume on Sunday 19th September, 2021. The revision for the classes will run from 20th to 26th September while promotion examination to SS3 class will start from 27th September to 8th October, 2021.

Mrs. Adefisayo further noted that the newly admitted JS1 students into Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools are to resume on Saturday, 2nd October, 2021 for a one-week orientation programme to intimate them on secondary school structure and modalities.

The Commissioner averred that other returning students in JS2, JS3, SS1 and the newly transited SS2 in the various Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools are to resume on Saturday, 9th October 2021, while classes for the students will commence on Monday, 11th October, 2021.

She also revealed that the adoption of staggered resumption for Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools was due to the presence of Y2020/2021 SS3 students currently writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) scheduled to end on the 6th of October, 2021, adding that another reason is that the schools cannot accommodate seven sets at once in the boarding system.

Adefisayo, therefore, appealed to parents to abide by the new development for a smooth academic session, just as she implored the students to be more diligent and devote more time to their studies.

Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) is set to ban single use plastic materials across its formations, as part of its efforts to curtail the environmental menace posed by the item.

AgegePulse learnt that,  this was made known by the Authority, in a press release on Monday, noting  that the agency was taking the step, as a key implementer of the Lagos State Plastic Policy, geared towards making the environment livable and free from plastic pollution.

“LAWMA, as an environment-friendly organisation, is totally committed to promoting the ban of single use plastic, across our work formations in the state. We are glad to lead by example, looking forward to other corporate bodies doing same, to make the environment cleaner and safe from plastic pollution”, the statement read.

The Authority called on residents to shun the act of indiscriminate dumping of waste at unauthorised locations, such as canals, gutters, road medians and uncompleted buildings, pointing out that such abhorrent practice worsened the challenge of flooding in the state, as the rainy season resumed.

Lekki, the fast-developing upper middle class area of Lagos Metropolis, is emerging as the new hub internet-related fraud. 

Data from the investigation activities of the Lagos Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for the second quarter of 2021, indicates that Lekki District is the preferred location for all manner of cyber fraud syndicates.

Between April and June, 2021, the Advance Fee Fraud and Cyber Crime Sections of the Command recorded a total of 402 internet-related fraud arrests. While the Advance Fee Fraud Section was responsible for 243 arrests, the Cyber Crime Section executed 18 sting operations which resulted in 159 arrests, from which 13 convictions have so far been recorded.

Of the 159 suspects arrested by the Cyber Crime Section, 70 are from Lekki, comprising communities such as Ajah, Badore, Victoria Garden City, Sangotedo and Oniru.

Ajah accounted for 24 suspects, while Oniru and Sangotedo had 14 and 13 suspects respectively. Badore had 8 suspects. Neighbouring Ikoyi and Eko Atlantic had 2 and one suspect each. Ikorodu and Alagbado on the Lagos Mainland make up the remainder.

The suspects are mostly millennials, with 82 of them aged between 25-34 years, which speaks to the fact that most of the individuals arrested are either still in school, recent graduates or university drop outs.

Analysis of the data from the Cyber Crime Section further shows that the dominant form of internet crime is Dating Scam/Online Dating Scam/Romance Scam. Sixty Four percent (64%) of individuals arrested are involved in romance scam, followed closely by “Middle Man Scam” and “Picking” which account for 8% and 7% respectively of those arrested.

The 64% involved in the dating scam benefitted to the tune of N8, 310,000; $349,290 USD; £ 900; €10 and Cryptocurrency 0.17513.

Other typologies of fraud identified include forgery, possession of fraudulent documents, spamming, credit card fraud, impersonation, rental scam, loan fraud, Business Email Compromise, Hacking, stealing, cheque scam, phishing, and money laundering.

The data also reveals gift cards, at 39%, as the prevalent method employed by the suspects to access their illicit funds. It is followed by bank transfers at 27% and Cryptocurrency at 21%.

A total of $12, 512.49USD was recovered from the e-wallet accounts of four suspects within the period.

The Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), have arrested a serial phone thief who journeys in and out of Lagos for the sole purpose of phone theft.

The suspect, Olajide Balogun 'M' (36), an indigene of Akoko, in Ondo State, was arrested by the RRS decoy team, who covertly monitored the suspect as he was carting away his loots on a motorcycle, along shasha road, in Alimosho Lagos.

The suspect on sighting the closely advancing RRS operatives, jumped off the motorcycle and took to heel, in an attempt to evade arrest; he was however, pursued and apprehended by the determined decoy team of the Agency.

Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and demonstrated his modus operandi when on operation to steal phones from his target victims.

Furthermore, the suspect confessed to have receivers of his loots at Computer Village and named on 'Emeka' as his major receiver.

The suspect will however be charged to court in line with the directive of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police CP Hakeem Odumosu.

No fewer than 200 students of Lagos State Education District I acquired skills in different vocations during a three-week skills acquisition programme organised by the District to empower its students. 

The free skills acquisition programme, according to the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of District I, Mrs. Titilayo Solarin, was intended to complement the classroom academic training for the students, alleviate poverty and encourage them to be self-reliant and independent. 

Speaking at the end of the annual Vocational Training and Skills Acquisition programme held at Government Senior College, Agege, Mrs. Solarin said that the Lagos State government is giving the students all-encompassing education to produce leaders with distinct knowledge, great skills and character. 

The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary said the training held across all the six Educational Districts, commending Governor Sanwo-Olu for approving the programme for students of public secondary schools to acquire skills in different vocations and avoid reliance on white-collar jobs alone for survival. 

Her words: "It is a fact that unemployment has become a major problem bedevilling youths globally. Nigeria, just like other developing countries, is faced with several challenges ranging from unemployment, insurgency, diseases and insecurity, among others. Having the required skills to keep the country's economy vibrant and being productive will go a long way in addressing most of these challenges". 

Also speaking on the initiative, the Director of Co-curricular, Science and Technology Department, Mrs. Lucy Omoaka, disclosed that some of the student trainees have been selected for empowerment and would be provided with vocational tools and materials for exceptional performance during the period of the training. 

She said that the students were trained on Soapmaking (liquid, medicated solid soaps), Small chops, Hall Decoration, Tye & Dye, Make-up, Gele-tying and Adire materials.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has ordered the 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) to increase their tariffs beginning September 1, 2021.

The commission in a letter titled ‘Tariff Increase Notification’ gave the energy distributors the leverage to charge a service based tariff.

However, Eko Electricity Distribution Plc has denied giving out information regarding hiking its tariff.

“Our attention has been brought to rumors making the rounds in the media from unconfirmed sources of a proposed adjustment in power tariffs,” the organization said in a statement signed by the MD, Engr. Adeoye Fadeyibi FNSE.

"Eko Electricity Distribution Plc would like to advise the general public to avoid any such reports that do not come from the company's management or its website, www.ekedp.com.

“While we continue to review effective and regulatory strategies to manage the impact of changes to macro-economic indices affecting end-user tariffs, the general public will be duly informed, in the event of any changes to the end-user tariff. Meanwhile, the Association of Nigerian Power Distributors (ANED) has denied accusations that Distribution Companies (DisCos) pressured the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to halt electricity trading under the Eligible Customer Regulation (ECR) 2017.

ANED Executive Director, Research & Advocacy, Sunday Oduntan, made this known in a rejoinder yesterday.

He said: “Whilst the concerns of the author and the stakeholders behind the publication are misplaced and unfounded, we found it compelling to set the records straight on the issues brought forward in the said publication.”

The DisCos also said they recognize the relevant provisions of the ESPRA 2005 and the ECR as well as their objectives, noting that there has been improvement in DisCos’ performance with more collaborations to increase efficiencies of the DisCos and indeed the entire value chain to achieve clean, safe and uninterrupted power supply to Nigerians

Some bandits in separate attacks have killed three persons, including a pilot, in two local government areas of Kaduna North and Kajuru, Kaduna State.

The pilot, Captain Abdukkarim Bala Na’Allah, said to be the eldest son of Senator Bala Na’Allah, was killed by the hoodlums in his Malali (GRA) residence in Kaduna North Local Government Area on Sunday.

Senator Na’Allah represents Kebbi South Senatorial seat in the Senate and was the Deputy Majority leader in the Eighth Senate

The 36-year old pilot who recently got married was tied and strangled at his Malali residence in Kaduna, after which his vehicle and other properties were carted away by his killers.

Special Adviser to Senator Bala Na'Allah, Garba Mohammed says the assailants gained entrance into the house through the roof.

He adds that a neighbour’s security guard noticed the gate of the deceased home opened and immediately raised alarm which led to the discovery of his body.

The slain pilot has been buried at the Unguwan Sarki cemetery according to Islamic rights.

The Kaduna State Police command is yet to react on the situation even though they were  notified and have visited the murder scene.

“Suspected Kaduna Bandits Kill Captain Abdulkarim Bala Na Allah, the first Son of Senator Bala Na’Allah, in his Malali GRA Residence Kaduna today,” said a statement trending on social media.

Meanwhile, on the Kajuru attack, it was said that the bandits invaded the Makoro Iri Village in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna States and killed two persons.

Consequent upon the arrival of the Cobra Squad at Onipanu to Obanikoro, inward Maryland, it was discovered that a commercial bus ran into a truck from behind while on top speed at the wee hours of today, Sunday, 15th August, 2021.

Unfortunately four passengers (two adult female, the driver and a three year old baby girl) in the bus lost their lives to the incident while three adult female sustained injuries and were administered pre-medical treatment by the Agency's Paramedics and LASAMBUS Officials. 

The Agency's Response team alongside LASAMBUS, Nigeria Police and SEHMU were responders at the incident scene. 

The trapped driver was extricated with the light rescue equipment and bagged. All the four mortalities were thereafter handed over to SEHMU for onward transit to the morgue while one of the injured casualties was moved to trauma centre with the Ambulance.

 

The other casualties were moved to the hospital while the accidented commercial bus was recovered off the road with the aid of the Agency's light tow truck and the truck was towed with the LASTMA tow truck and handed over to Police Officers from Pedro Division.

In an afternoon operation, the Dolphin Squad at Igando was activated to recover the carcasses of a road accident which occurred at Egbe, Ikotun inward Synagogue Church of all Nations.

The Team alongside the Police Force, Ikotun Division evacuated the Daf Truck with registration number XA 203 GRM, an unidentified blue Lexus car and a TVS Motor Bike which left two occupants of the Lexus car dead.

Information gathered from Police Officers,  Ikotun division revealed the fully loaded Daf truck had a break failure and rammned into the Lexus car and Motor Bike.

The Agency's light tow truck evacuated the bike and Lexus car while the Agency's Super-Metro evacuated the truck and handed over to the Police Officers from Ikotun Division to avert a secondary incident and also to ease traffic gridlock along the axis.

The family of Stanley Okoro, the fast-rising Nollywood actor that died a few days ago, has alleged that the movie star was poisoned by colleagues.

DAILY POST reported that Okoro, popularly known for his comedy roles in movies, died on Wednesday from a suspected case of food poisoning.

According to the family, Okoro was poisoned after successfully completing a movie shoot in a hotel in the Maryland area of Enugu State.

Although they cannot tell if the 23-year-old actor was having problems with anybody that would want him dead, the family said that Okoro’s only problem was his obsession with food.

A very close Cousin to the deceased, Okoro Nneka Loveth, who spoke to DAILY POST on Thursday, said the deceased loved and carried everyone along.

Her words, “Stanley happens to be my Cousin. A very close Cousin. Stanley was poisoned. And the person that poisoned him was among the people on set with him as of last week.

“Usually, whenever he came to Enugu, he’d either call me for food or call one of our Cousins to get him food. Stanley liked food alot. He ate a lot.

“So whenever he asked me for food, (usually I’m very busy) I’d send a Keke (tricycle) driver to go and deliver it. I have one Hausa Keke driver that usually did that for me or I’d go myself or my other Cousin will go herself or send one of her girls.

“But this last time he came, we only talked on the phone. They were in Enugu for a movie shoot. Their location was in Maryland, Enugu.

“So after the movie shoot he went back. He apologised that this time, he could not meet with us but that he’d be coming back the next week. Stanley left Enugu four day ago and said he’d be coming back next week, that they have another movie to shoot.

“He lived in Owerri (Imo State) but this poisoning happened in Enugu. Immediately he got back to Owerri the thing started happening to him as if he had a stroke and he started vomiting.

“They rushed him to a hospital and on getting to the hospital Stanley gave up. So the person used a fast poison. Maybe as they rounded up shooting and decided to eat the person just took the advantage.

“Throughout yesterday, we did not sleep. In fact, Stanley did not deserve to die. That guy is nice and carries everybody along. In fact, everyone in my village is crying. He was so down to earth. The only problem he had was that he liked food a lot. He ate too much.

“He was not married but may have been in a serious relationship. He wasn’t even up to 30 years. I can’t tell if he was having problems with anybody [that would want him dead]. He didn’t tell me of anyone.

Ogba is an  ancient town in the old colony province of western Nigeria now Lagos State of Nigeria.

Ogba was founded by one prince Owoeni Asade and was a prince from Ile -Ife who left Ile -Ife in the late seventeenth Century, settled down briefly at Iseyin from where he moved to Afon town where his brother , an Ifa priest Consulted his  Ifa  oracle and they were  advised to  move  downward  and which is now Ota township.

They settle down at Ota in Osi quarters where  they met  their  relatives in IIoti quarters  with Osi palace Ota , which is now known and called Onikosi palace Ota . In the early eighteenth century , they went on hunting expedition with their brothers who founded the present day Orile Agege and they moved upward and settled down at the present day Ogbaland . In 1840 or there about during the Dahomey  war , Owoeni Asade and his brother moved to Ado -Odo where Arola Asade was born .

Both the father and son came back to Ogba in the year 1860 Owoeni Asade died in year 1876.Prince Arola Asade took over the reign of obaship of Ogbaland in the year 1880 and become so popular and commanded respect in all the Awori towns and environs , the then British Governor of Lagos crown colony Mr . Glover honoured Oba Asade with the British flag and he was being paid a stipend amount of thirty (30) shilling monthly.

The only Crown surveyor , Chief Herbert Macaulay of blessed memory in the year 1896,surveyed the area controlled by Oba Arola Asade. The area include the present Alausa formally Tappa village where the Lagos State secretariat  stands  today,Agindigbi, Adekunle , Oloti , Operekete , Jaguna,  Abule George, Ijaiye and part of Aguda Ogba town and the half of the present Agege town according to intelligent report of 1935 giving half of the present Agege station town to Ogba people.

 

When Arola Asade settled down, he was joined by Chief Madarikan who was a little nephew to Ebo Aweri,Wife of Arola Asade as tradition and customs in those days to see off a wife to her husband house and Chief Akilo from Ota, Chief Ajai Ofe from Ewu, chief Adarijo from Igbesa ,Chief Salawu from Ilorin and chief Akingbade from Ota . He was later joined by Ogabis, Ogunji Ajaguna’s all from Ota and Majaros, who own ¾ part of Ajegunle land . Owoeni Asade gave birth to four (4) children two male and two female . Namely (1) Arola (2) Iroko (3) Omoseyin (4) Dada Abori.

Arola Asade the eldest child of Owoeni was the first bale of Ogba and its environs in 1880 at the age of 40 years. He died on the 16th day of may 1930 at the age of 90 years.

The federal executive council (FEC) has approved a new policy for tollgates across the country.

Babatunde Fashola, minister of works and housing, disclosed this at a media briefing on Wednesday.

According to a statement by Tolu Ogunlesi, presidential aide, the council granted approval of the ‘Federal Roads and Bridges Tolling Policy and Regulations’ at its meeting on Wednesday.

While noting that the tolling system will prioritise the use of technology, some highlights of the regulations include recommended tolling fees for vehicles as follows: “Cars: N200; SUVs: N300; Private Buses: N300; Commercial Buses: N150, and Luxury Buses and Trucks: N500.”

The Executive Chairman of Orile Agege LCDA, Hon. Johnson  Babatunde has reassured the good people of Orile Agege of his commitment towards the modernisation of the LCDA.

Mr. Project disclosed this in a media broadcast share to newsmen in Orile Agege LCDA in Lagos.

"I thank you all for giving me the opportunity to steer the ship of this great LCDA once again as you all have come en masse to vote me back to the office as the Council Mayor in order to consolidate on what we have achieved so far. Seeking re-election back to the office I promise to do more and better in this new dispensation if re-elected. since you have made that possible for I will not disappoint you.

"In this new dispensation, we are looking forward to improving the lifestyle of the people through meaningful empowerment as we have done earlier in our previous administration where over 500 residents were beneficiaries of N100,000 each in our quarterly empowerment program.

"Widows and the less privileged were also not left out as we engage in the Monthly Distribution of Food Items in order to ease hunger among them. We also bought 19 Mini busses (korope) for unemployed youth who were selected systematically across the 6 wards of the LCDA. As a Government, we are consolidating on what we have achieved so far on empowerment and we promise to do more. 

We are going on a pace that will be higher than that of our first term on Road and Infrastructure where we embarked on so many Construction and Rehabilitation of Toads and Drainages within the LCDA in order to make life much easier for the people of this LCDA.

"Upon resumption, in office, we will not rest on our oars but be too swift to action by completing our Ongoing Projects and embark on New Projects which will be ready for commission before our first 100 days in office. We will be commissioning not less than 12 projects across all sectors in our first 100 days.

"On Education, we are going to make schools in this LCDA a model for others to follow as it’s our responsibility to ensure pupils have a conducive place to learn. In our first term in office, we embark on the transformation of dilapidated schools within the LCDA such as the Rehabilitation of Zion African Church Primary School, Ideal Primary School, 1 Block of 4 Classrooms at Girls High School, 1 Block of 6 Classrooms at Government Comprehensive Junior College. We also have ongoing projects at Oyewole Primary School Complex, State High School Oyewole.

"My appreciation goes to residents and indigenes of Orile Agege for making us have a peaceful reign in our first term in office and also relying on your unflinching support in the days ahead by ensuring you pay all taxes and levies as at when due because we are going to make judicious use of your money for the development of Orile Agege and also detest the vandalization of public properties". Said, the council Mayor.
